To keep up to date...
It appears Tropical Depression Nine might be one to watch.
It might provide much needed rain to drought stricken parts of the South.
But it might also wreak havoc with the GOP Convention.
Also it might wreak havoc on the Gulf Coast...
The Gulf of Mexico is quite potent this time of year to produce storms with exceptionally warm water and conditions.
Might be something to follow...
Initial NOAA forecast is for a Hurricane in a few days — possibly Category 2.
Would be Isaac if it forms into a Tropical Storm.
Current GFS models put it near the straights of Florida by Friday.
All is hedging on a mid-Atlantic ridge. If it moves to the east, Isaac would spin of into the Atlantic. If it stays in place, Katie bar the door.

More early prediction hysterics from the National Hurricane Center. They put the path of this thing over Hatti/ The DR which is known as the Hurricane Shredder thanks to the mountians.
I’ve noticed since NOAA started issuing these five days guesses, the intial tracks are almost always to far south and gradually get moved north with new advisories and data. This thing will part hit the east coast of Florida. Georgia, or the Carolinas.
Maybe the GOP will consider a city outside of a hurricane zone next time, like Buffalo or Cheyenne, Wyoming??

I just hope if it comes to SE Virginia, it destroys my house that way I don’t have to deal with a flooded basement, downed trees, and no power for 2 weeks. I’d rather just build a new house.
The thing that bothers me about all this stuff is the local weather guys run with it and it drums up hysteria that is uncalled for. With weather, I miss the days when Meteorologists actual sat down a analyzed the data and matched it with historical trends. Now, they just rely on whatever a computer model spits out and run with it. And it's usually the model that came close to predicting the last weather event which does not guarantee it will be correct for the current weather event.
I heard the Obama people have been working on a hurricane machine.
You can take it to the bank: the week before, after and during Labor Day WILL HAVE some major tropical activity near or in Florida.
Period.

I live in Tampa. I see it year after year with few exceptions.
In accordance with the silver lining theory, the poor occupy critters who have no place to go but the sidewalk will be just blown away...or at least get very wet. Nothing dampens enthusiasm like a good hard rain.
It’s really hard for a storm at this latitude to effect the “left” coast of Florida without first riding up the mountains of central Cuba and the length of the Florida peninsula. This means the storm that reaches the convention will likely be a tropical storm at most. Although that means the weather will be lousy getting to and from the convention, once inside, life’s easy. The only folks that could really be affected are the idiots outside trying to wave signs.

Has anyone read the book Issac’s Storm? Great book about the 1900 Galveston storm. The descriptions in the book were the same as the ones my grandfather told us. He survived the storm when he was a young man.
The sweep of that cone could bring us another Charlie. Fortunately the west part of the Gulf shore of Florida doesn’t usually get the brunt of the big storms. It took Charlie 44 years to get at our area. Wilma came after Charlie, but was nothing to get excited over. Actually Wilma did put us out of electricity for over a week, by knocking a tree down on our local wiring. It wasn’t a priority job for the power company, so we had to wait til they got around to it. When they came, it was a nothing job that was done in an hour or two. After Charlie the building codes were up graded. We bought a new home close to what was ground zero, now we just say, bring it on.
