The sweep of that cone could bring us another Charlie. Fortunately the west part of the Gulf shore of Florida doesn’t usually get the brunt of the big storms. It took Charlie 44 years to get at our area. Wilma came after Charlie, but was nothing to get excited over. Actually Wilma did put us out of electricity for over a week, by knocking a tree down on our local wiring. It wasn’t a priority job for the power company, so we had to wait til they got around to it. When they came, it was a nothing job that was done in an hour or two. After Charlie the building codes were up graded. We bought a new home close to what was ground zero, now we just say, bring it on.
My now-wife and I vacationed in Captiva last year when I proposed to her, and you wouldn’t know anything happened down there. The resort staff told us that they were hit directly, but they recovered pretty quick from what I can tell.
We’re honeymooning in Captiva in October. Isaac better not screw that up for us!
