“This year, California’s electoral votes will go to the winner of the majority vote in the U.S.

True fact.”

I did not know that, and haven’t heard it stated elsewhere.

Are you sure, and can you provide sourcing for your claim?

That's only because the lib legislature thought they were smart in arranging that. Now, if a republican takes the poular vote, quicker than you can crack a smile, this state will file an injunction, and get a superior court judge to declare that law unconstitutional, and all, and therefore nullified.

As a side, that rule kind of puts a damper on those who say their vote in CA does not matter, don't it?

I live in NC and Rove had NC in the toss up category. That is ridiculous! In Durham (a liberal town if there ever was one) Biden atttacted only 600 people at a rally this week-end. Durham is a big city in the center of the Research Triangle Park. R&R drew over 10,000 down I-85 in High Point which is a much smaller city.

Chris Christie has done something here that I never would have thought possible. Within 3-4 months of taking office in January of 2010, he has effectively reduced public school teachers to a level of public respect in New Jersey that is somewhere between arsonists and child molesters. I never, ever would have dreamed that such a thing could happen

Good point, and that is exactly why the naysayers who say we can't run this election on big ideological issues and instead have to focus on things like "jobs" have it exactly wrong. Conservative ideology is correct, logical and based on common sense. The only reason we can't win elections is because we don't explain it properly to the public, or we simply can't get the message out through the liberal media. If we owned as much of the media as the liberals do, this would be a 2 to 1 Republican country, instead of a 1 to 1 split. Keep in mind how POWERFUL the liberal message is. They get people to HATE Fox News who have NEVER WATCHED IT. That is a staggeringly successful level of brainwashing.

I think one thing we ought to do is promote our local conservative talk radio stations along with promoting the candidates. If we can get people listening to those, that's worth hundreds of ad buys. I'm going to try to get a bumper sticker from the station for mine.

Yes. Back in 2004, libs were flabbergasted and flipping out because it was practically a shoe in considering how much everyone supposedly hated Bush.

We have to be careful this go ‘round.

Not true.

NPV or National Popular vote needs 270 state electors signed on. Doesn’t have it and probably never will.

“The NPV proposal doesn’t go into effect until the sum total of the electoral college votes of the states which have enacted the proposal reach the necessary total of votes for victory in the electoral college. That’s currently 270 votes, and California’s 55 electoral votes, when added to those of the seven other states and the District of Columbia which have passed similar legislation, bring the current NPV total to only 142.”

Election isn’t held today and we don’t use NBC WSJ polls to decide elections. Karl’s probably don’t reflect Ryan either

The first part of your statement is utter bullsh!t. Refinery problems would cause a spike in gasoline prices, but what we've seen in recent weeks is a steep rise in the price of crude oil

Your statement is just a tad too strong there. Both factors are contributing, but they're saying gas prices will go down starting around September/October because the refinery issues should be cleaned up by then. Doesn't guarantee some other unexpected factor won't be in play by then of course. But these temporary issues plus the standard lower demand after Summer is not leading to any kind of slam-dunk for getting Obama booted out based on gas prices.

I think it's because people are too tired and/or scared to think for themselves. For every person I see out there each day plugged into an iPod or iPhone, fancy takeout coffee in hand, there are three more just like them who are passive consumers of ideas. They go home from their jobs (if they are lucky enough to have a job) exhausted, and immediately turn on the TV for "news" or turn to The Daily Show for what they believe to be the hip take on current events. It's the clever thing to do. Or maybe they read Doonesbury.

The article goes on to state it would only be enacted when a certain number of other states also adopt the system.

IOW it does not go into effect this election.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Popular_Vote_Interstate_Compact

So IOW California will NOT be awarding votes this election based on the national popular vote.

Original claim disproved.

Let's not forget 1996 either. Clinton had just faced a historic upset in the House 2 years earlier. They successfully restricted his liberal agenda, which reduced the "fear" level among normal people of the president. Then they nominated a moderate Republican and a fiscal conservative V.P. (Ryan is in fact a protege of Jack Kemp). Clinton, like Obama, also got elected the first time because people blamed Republicans for driving us into a recession. The off-year election was won with informed voters, but all those wishy-washy swing voters will be coming back for the presidential election.

RCP is crap: when you average well-respected polls with proven methodology, sampling, and refusal corrections with silly, largely unscientific polls such as FoxNews/Opinion Dynamics or Quinnipiac with reputable pollsters like Gallup or Rasmussen, you don't get a more accurate poll, you get a less accurate one. My calculator says pi is 3.14159265359; My slide rule says it's 3.14. Averaging the two to get a "better number" isn't anything but stupid. Statistics with different cohorts don't add, and only innumerate d-bags claim they do.

Nobody is paying attention until after Labor Day, and the numbers will not settle until mid-October at the earliest. The Polls of Adults and Registered Voters are push polls designed to shape public opinion and nothing more. Here are the numbers the incumbent needs to pay attention to: 1) Approval Rating. At +43, he is in serious trouble. 2) Right Track/Wrong Track. with the wrong track number nearing 70%, he is in VERY VERY SERIOUS TROUBLE.

My question is, who conducted these state by state polls? And are they based on registered or likely voters? Being as this is Fox News, I’ll bet they are registered voters.

I remember everyone here saying how Obama could never win in 2008. Most polls show Obama still leading so Rove is only saying what everyone knows. If election was held today, Obama would narrowly win.

Obama is hated by many, but leftists still love him. Romney does not have his base lined up behind him. Some hardcore conservatives, and many Christian fundamentalists will still not vote for him. I suspect it will be close and may basically come down to Floria.

If Romney can somehow assure the base that he changed his worldview and is now a real conservative, he will win.
