woman who went to China's Changsha Central Hospital complaining of itching in the left side of her head was told by doctors that the source of irritation was a spider that had been living inside her ear canal for five days.
Doctors reportedly used a saline solution to flush out the spider in order to avoid having the spider burrow deeper inside the canal or bite her.
The flushing technique was successful and the woman reportedly wept with gratitude after being told the spider was removed. Doctors say they believe the spider entered the woman's home while the home was undergoing renovations, and crawled into her ear while she was sleeping.
A report by CNN states that spiders and other bugs are appearing in greater numbers this summer due to warm weather and drought conditions across the U.S.

Happened all the time at the hospital ER in which I worked for 20 years. But it wasn’t spiders,it was cockroaches. In fact,I learned what the Spanish word âccokarachaâ (? spelling) was that way.I was absolutely *new* in the ER when one night a woman came to the desk, pointed to her ear,and said âcookarachaâ.I asked the charge nurse what a âccokarachaâ was and she said âit’s a cockroachâ and I replied âwell, there’s a woman here with one inn her earâ.Forty years ago and I remember it like it was yesterday (like many other things I saw there).

You can kill them by flooding your ear with baby oil or the like. Still have get someone to flush them out but at least they stop moving around in there.

Use peroxide, it will kill the bug and also disinfect the area.

The smell of earwax should keep bugs out.

I was appalled by this incident.I was just a kid from the suburbs experiencing the dark side of the big city for the first time...the side that I had heard about but had never seen.I had barely even *heard* of cockroaches let alone knew that one can have them in their ears! I should have quit right there!

That’s pretty creepy ....
It’s either a really small spider or a really big ear....

Several years back a new neighbor moved in who was an emergency medicine physician at Johns Hopkins. Once we started hanging out with her and her husband I asked if she was getting tired of treating all the knife, gun and general beating injuries. Very much unexpected was her answer that what she was really getting weary of was treating folks with cockroaches in their ear canals. I’d never heard of such a thing but she said it was very routine in inner city Baltimore.

I hate spiders! A few weeks ago, I woke up with my right hip hurting just terribly! Yeah,,, I’m old,,, and my hip ain’t great...... but it never hurt like this. A few hours later, I was sitting at my computer, and just kinda absently scratched my leg. I found two spider bites! I rubbed them with Benedryl creme, and took a Benedryl cap. Within 30 minutes, my hip stopped hurting! I hate spiders!

Remember the Night Gallery episode about the Earwig?
I think it was taken from a South African radio show from the late 1960s called "Beyond Midnight" and the epi Something On His Mind
I just happened to have listened to it earlier in the week.
