I think it was taken from a South African radio show from the late 1960s called "Beyond Midnight" and the epi Something On His Mind

I just happened to have listened to it earlier in the week.

Just had a thought. I think the Actor was Lawrence Harvey.

As a kid, that was one of the scariest episodes I could remember.
