The MSM is definitely pushing "pretty and strong" meme. They repeated those words ad-nauseum for the past week. One issue that is contributing to your feeling is the entry of women into very masculine sports; i.e. boxing, weight-lifting, greco-roman wrestling, etc. No way can one be feminine and be in those sports.
Today's women athletes seem to be competing with the men on the sidelines rather than the women in their class, it seems that the more masculine they act, the more they can prove their equality. Sad, really.
I don’t find most of the female competitors particularly feminine, and I’ve never been impressed by women who want to compete with men — or other women — athletically. I respect a woman in good shape, but don’t find anything attractive about female “jocks.”
That said, I would emphasize that it’s merely a personal preference.
My Grandmother was routinely cheated on, had the crap beat out of her on a regular basis, had no education or job skills(so could not leave) and lived in a time when divorce was taboo due to religious/social pressures...in other words in those "good old days" you keep bringing were not so great for many women.
Yeah we have some problems today but I would take today's life over the glorious 50's any day. You might get nauseous over today's women but I get equally nauseous over the 50's portrayl of how women were supposed to be..the ones that in times of fear would bring their arm up to the mouth, scream and then faint...
Don't have kids yet and if I do have a girl(s) they will be brought up to be smart, ambitious, strong and independent...you can bet on that.
And "momtothree" is 100% correct. I have never seen a woman who was involved in sports to be lazy, have kids out of wedlock etc..
Why do we segregate the sexes in Olympic competition.
In the Men’s Room, where they started.
No way was Marilyn Monroe obese. She wasn’t toned the way Hollywood stars are expected to be now, and she didn’t sport a spray-on tan. She was small-boned - look at her shoulders, and her jaw. She had a 22 inch waist, and if she wore a size 12 dress, that’s today’s size 4.
No, I had the same thought after watching.
For those of you in Rio Linda - we have both men and women's competitions for the the same reason we segregate smaller boxers from heavy boxers - so we can see a high level of competition from athletes who have risen to be the absolute best that they can be.
You know, the truth is that I’m very feminine, and I was when I was an athlete, too. I do all the traditional things—gardening, baking, sewing, child-care, homemaking.
Today my daughter is the way I was. She loves makeup, clothes, and heels, always has a beautiful manicure, is shapely and sweet-looking. Men dote on her for her angelic smile and voice. And she can pick up a horse that displeases her and throw it across its stall. OK, maybe not literally, but she can exert tremendous physical strength and skill. She’s a tough cookie, can handle firearms, trucks, tractors, and tools. She knows how to collect a stallion and back up a forty-foot horse van loaded with a half a million dollars’ worth of stock. She cooks, decorates, and is artistic. She is further to the right than Ann Coulter :-).
And if any man were silly enough to impugn the femininity of this athlete, she would walk away from him in her lovely silk suit, giving him a view that would shut him up forever.
She is a woman. She is an American. Some of the men on this board who criticize women like her should realize how much they sound like Muslims.
They sound like they’re afraid of us.
Nah. Of course not. Men look the way they do because that's what their sports demand. Women? How dare they do the same thing.
“Do you look down on your grandmothers that much?”
My grandmothers were intense, intelligent and strong women. Probably not much to your liking, AR. I believe where we differ in opinion is how you define a feminine woman. Boob size is ridiculous. Finishing school is ridiculous. A truly feminine woman, IMHO, is one that is capable of doing many tasks and well. She is intelligent and up to date on political, economic and social affairs. She can mother her children with affection and help raise them to be good, honest, kind adults. She can take many of life’s difficulties and rise above them. She is strong in her faith and strong in her love of family and friends.
I actually find you posting this on FR a bit humorous. There are many FReeper women that hunt, fish, camp, ride motorcycles (can you BELIEVE that?!) and work in numerous professions. They are the most feminine women I know. They are inspiring because they have refused to be put into a box limiting their intellect, hobbies, sports, interests and definition of what is a “feminine” woman. FReeper women are anything but “Stepford wives”. Strength in body, mind and spirit is what defines a feminine woman... not her cup size.
No. Natural athleticism in women is fine. No one is saying physical fitness education is a bad thing.
Feminism though has pushed athleticism on women. You are aware of the incredibly unfair application of Title IX, aren’t you? Colleges shut-down men’s athletics (with LOTS of demand from men for them) and open up certain women’s athletics (with little demand from women for them) just to APPEAR to be fair.... Why such an ideal for women to be athletic? Why such an ideal for women to do everything men do?
My point is that FEMINISM itself IS INDEED a key element in: “abortion, STDs, divorce, fatherless children, poverty, homosexuality, AIDS, gangs and a high murder rate.”
Every one of those problems is directly related to dysfunctional families...which feminism has at least aggravated.
Is equal-pay for equal-work a good thing? Of course. Should men and women be treated with equal respect? YES. Beyond that though, feminism has been a very negative thing.
The acceptance of the anti-feminine elements of feminism, is equally to blame on both men and women.
And I say he’s absolutely wrong.
Not surprising coming from a culture where the female form exists purely for the enjoyment of men - when it isn’t covered from head to toe, that is.
Most athletes get ripped for high level competition & when they retire they go back to normal.
At least in our country women have a choice.
If they don’t want muscular athletic bodies - certainly no one is forcing them to!
I didn’t say or hint that she did.
But feminism is directly linked to all of those problems. And feminism (SEE TITLE IX) has certainly been linked to really pushing for women to be more like men....in athletics.
See my post above.
A few years after their athletic peak (when they win the medals) most of these girls become complete goddesses.
Denise Lewis (2000 Summer Olympics heptathelete) is commentating on BBC. Oh boy she looks good.
here are some women who are into weight lifting...if you don't get aroused by these hot females.......
