You know, the truth is that I’m very feminine, and I was when I was an athlete, too. I do all the traditional things—gardening, baking, sewing, child-care, homemaking.
Today my daughter is the way I was. She loves makeup, clothes, and heels, always has a beautiful manicure, is shapely and sweet-looking. Men dote on her for her angelic smile and voice. And she can pick up a horse that displeases her and throw it across its stall. OK, maybe not literally, but she can exert tremendous physical strength and skill. She’s a tough cookie, can handle firearms, trucks, tractors, and tools. She knows how to collect a stallion and back up a forty-foot horse van loaded with a half a million dollars’ worth of stock. She cooks, decorates, and is artistic. She is further to the right than Ann Coulter :-).
And if any man were silly enough to impugn the femininity of this athlete, she would walk away from him in her lovely silk suit, giving him a view that would shut him up forever.
She is a woman. She is an American. Some of the men on this board who criticize women like her should realize how much they sound like Muslims.
They sound like they’re afraid of us.
Raising a daughter to try to rival your daughter.
Men who are sure of themselves are not threatened by powerful women.
My brother set me up with a woman he worked with once in gardening/nursery/landscaping. She put her work boots on one foot at a time just like everyone else - but she kicked major ass when she had them on.
Some coworkers of his (who she regularly bossed around as part of her duties) said to me “How can you date her? She is SUCH A B*TCH!”
I could only answer “She sure is sweet to me!”
“She is a woman. She is an American...”
She sounds absolutely wonderful! Great job in raising an intelligent, independent, strong, conservative woman. “... how much they sound like Muslims”. They do. They refuse to see the complexity of women and center totally on external qualities. Anytime I read something that sounds like, “A woman should ____”... it is placing half of our society into a box. It limits half of our populations skill, dreams, hopes, ambitions, and possibilities. There is nothing wrong at all with a woman who can cook a nice dinner AND can change their cars oil. Nothing wrong at all with a woman who can run in a marathon AND is a doting, loving Mother. Can some of these freepers actually be afraid that they won’t be needed? Would they refuse to go to a female surgeon or hire a female lawyer if they needed to?
We are raising our two daughters to be intelligent and strong. They both helped me can 24 pints of salsa and both can fish. Both are involved in sports. Both will be great conservative women.
