Theres no shortage of myths about the appearance of our notorious Viking ancestors.
To find out more about these myths, ScienceNordics Danish partner site, videnskab.dk, asked its Facebook readers to list their favourite myths about what the Vikings looked like.
We have picked out five myths from the resulting debate and asked researchers to help us confirm or bust these myths.
Armed with this information, our graphic designer then took a shot at drawing some examples of our infamous forefathers, which you can see in our picture gallery...

Looks like the women have outgrown any masculine appearance.

where do you think those red-headed Irish came from? ... You should check out the DNA project
In fact, I have two cousins (out of ten) who have red hair.
I've been a member of Family Tree DNA for almost 5 years, including three projects, all Irish.
Did you have a specific project in mind?

Yes...I have to admit I was surprised to read that. I spent several weeks in Denmark in 1981, back when I was a college student, and very attractive women were everywhere (and they sunbathed topless in the parks in Copenhagen!)

something like this?
http://www.dnaancestryproject.com/ydna_intro_howto.php
I figured when the Olympic squads from Norway Sweden and Denmark walked the stadium last week, we kinda knew what Vikings looked like
The Vikings took some of the best-looking woman slaves from Saxony and the British isles back with them- which may have diluted the genes of those heavy jawed masculine looking Viking females described in the article!
Strange but I saw a show this week where Asian DNA (all of Asia, China, India, Russia, Kazakhstan) was sampled and 1 of every 200 men tested traced back to a single probably Mongol ancestor, Ghengis Khan
Wonder if the Vikings had an equivalent super sperm spreader?

Compared to the typical mic, everybody is a swarthy latino. If you even shine a halogen flashlight on us we burst into flames.
LOL! I always warn that I'm thin skinned too.

I figured when the Olympic squads from Norway Sweden and Denmark walked the stadium last week ...I surfed onto the USA vs New Zealand field hockey game yesterday and as they switched from one NZ babe to another,
I swore it was the same one over and over.
Your ancestry link is to another DNA service, which offers the same/similar testing that FTDNA does. Can't afford to join them all :)
Within FTDNA I also belong to three projects 1) my Ireland yDNA; 2) Irish Families and also a surname project.

The English language is an amalgamation of the peoples who came from or fought over parts of the British Isles, beginning with ancient Celts, to the Romans, to the Germanic Angles and then the Germanic Saxons, and then the Norse, and lastly the Normans (Franco-Norse).
Parts of each remain in the modern English language.
Among the words that remain that have a distinct Norse origin, the majority are found to be of the farm and flora and fauna - not war and battle and victory and defeat.
No surprise - the “victors” always write the history and shape popular conceptions of it.

Hockey One, Hockey Two, Hockey Three, smash the other goalie in the shins and take off with the ball while shes rubbing her leg...
LOL
My mother had played and she taught me a few little tricks
