ScienceDaily (Aug. 1, 2012) A new study raises concern about chronic exposure of workers in industry to a food flavoring ingredient used to produce the distinctive buttery flavor and aroma of microwave popcorn, margarines, snack foods, candy, baked goods, pet foods and other products. It found evidence that the ingredient, diacetyl (DA), intensifies the damaging effects of an abnormal brain protein linked to Alzheimer's disease.
The study appears in ACS' journal Chemical Research in Toxicology.

is this another one of those correlation equal cause science
This doesn’t surprise me. The odor of microwave popcorn with that artificial butter flavor is about as appetizing as the odor of a port-o-potty.
Yup, my first lager tasted like movie popcorn butter because I pitched the yeast at too high of temperature. Make a note, don’t pitch at 70 degrees like the package recommends. Now I run it through the chiller down to about 50. Much cleaner.
>> Diacetyl??? Crap, that is in every bad batch of beer I have ever brewed. I am doomed.
You already posted that yesterday... don’t you remember??!?!
I don’t remember.
>> I dont remember.
You must’ve been hitting the ol’ diacetyl pretty heavy yourself then. :-)
I heard it can turn you white.
It isn’t only popcorn most man made oils are harmful. Use real oil Olive and coconut oil or real butter not margarine. I wrote an article on this

I refuse to buy any more theater popcorn or drinks, priced outrageously and poor tasting, drinks are watered down, popcorn has a cardboard taste. I brink my own snacks, and I eat my popcorn at home.
While smartfood is good, especially white cheddar, my homemade popcorn blows it out of the universe.
Nothing smells better than popcorn cooking in coconut oil.
....made in a WhirleyPop! AMEN! And praise the Lord!
Who goes to the movies anymore?
Actually, we went to the drive-in theater last week....first time I’ve been to a *movie* in 20 years! Luckily you can *smuggle* all sorts of food ‘n drinks into a drive-in to save being raped at the register. :)
Whoot!
That is the exact popcorn popper I use :D
Along with Yoder coconut popcorn oil from americanspice.com, which has all sort of great things that cannot be bought in any store around here.
Praise the Lord!
The Soy Industry went after Coconut oil to cover up the Trans Fat investigations. I document this in my blog article
