Yeah, I assumed he had died long ago too, but what a career. A Sam Peckinpah regular, R. G. Armstrong had a familiar, grizzled face and appeared in tons of TV shows, westerns, action films, and quite a few horror roles beginning in the mid-1950s.

Just saw him yesterday inb the Warren Beatty Dick Tracy film. He was always good at playing a mean s.o.b.
He had a bit part in a 1961 “Andy Griffith Show” where he played a farmer with a daughter that wanted to use make up and wear dresses but he couldn’t allow it because he didn’t have anybody else to help him with the farm. He finally allowed it when Andy reasoned that his daughter should get dolled up and get married so the farmer would have a strapping son in law. It was 40 years before Andy started shilling for the socialists. He was still a decent human being.
Really good character actor. Especially menacing as a villain, but could also play likeable roles well. He “looked” old even back in the 1950s!
I had no idea who he was until I saw the picture then oh boy, that guy has been in everything.
He was in some of those Burt Reynolds Gator films, I also remember him in one of the “The Invaders” episodes. Probably in too many shows to mention.
Yes he really did look like a tough character. In fact I bet he really was.
i love that episode... Andy’s gal friend who worked at the drug store gave her a make over, and her father didn’t recognize her... and she caught the eye of the boy from the farm next door... during the series, there were signs of Andy’s socialism... the one that irked me the most was the one that had to do with eminent domain...
If you read through his IMDB fiimography, he appeared in almost every TV western in the early “Golden Days”. Thanks for all the great memories, R.G. Your gruff old face will be missed.......
Finally I was able to figure out who Pruneface in Dick Tracy was. It’s always bugged me because there were some clues. I can rest easy now.
Nevermind. Predator. The only movie in which schwarzenegger did a halfway decent acting job.
Reminds me of Fred Thompson. A face like a pair of old slippers — well worn and comfy, the kind you don’t want to replace with new.
These actors live on in our memories, renewed by watching old movies on Netflix or AMC.
It is a rude awakening to realize that they are 95, or gone...

He looked exactly like the chairman of the History department when I was in college. Oddly, my former chairman also died recently. I’m willing to bet R G Armstrong was a much nicer guy.
