DECATUR, Ala. (WHNT) A dog was killed recently as the Morgan County Drug Task Force served a search warrant. Now, the Sheriffs Office is fielding complaints about the animals death.
The dog was shot while the Morgan County Drug Task Force was conducting a search for illegal sales/possession of narcotics and marijuana at the Cedar Key Apartments in Decatur. Four people were arrested.
Someone has set up a Facebook page called Justice for Aubie, the golden retriever who was shot. Be warned, the Facebook page contains graphic pictures of the dog after it was shot.
Its not clear who set up the page. It only says it was created in honor of Aubie, a golden retriever who was shot and killed without reason during a search by Morgan County Sheriffs Office.
Sheriff Franklin said at a news conference Monday that information on the Facebook page is wrong. The comments on Facebook are inaccurate, Franklin said at a Monday afternoon news conference. Its false. Its intended to mislead the public and to alarm them and aggravate them.
Franklin says deputies were forced to shoot the dog when it lunged at them. She says comments that deputies should have called in animal services before deputies entered are ridiculous. Franklin says deputies were forced with a split-second decision and they did the right thing.
Sheriff Franklin also issued a stern warning.
If youre a dope dealer and youve got a dog, and youve got that dog to protect you, and youve got that dog to try and limit us, then you need to be aware of the fact that if it makes an aggressive move toward us, or anybody else, there is a possibility its going to be shot, said Franklin.
Ahh. A liberal response. How droll of you.
F* U Sheriff BigShot!
Actually, Ken's right - we see this type of junk more and more because of the "need" to "fight" the War on (Some) Drugs that a lot of people idiotically still think is a social necessity.
No thanks - I'd rather keep my constitutional rights. Last I heard, that wasn't a "liberal" response.
What Sheriff Buffoon should understand is that many people may be thinking, If youre an officer and youve got a gun, and youve got that gun to protect you, and youve got that gun to try and limit innocent people, then you need to be aware of the fact that if it makes an aggressive move toward innocent people, or their pets, there is a possibility you’re going to be shot. These neanderthals need to be brought back under control before it happens, because sooner or later it will and there’s just no reason for it. Cops are way too conditioned to use or threaten lethal force these days. I’m starting to feel safer when I know there are no police around to “help” me. Sheesh.
Ahh. A liberal response. How droll of you.
How so?
Since you asked - I’ll explain...
Only a liberal argues for the legalization of drugs. Only a liberal confuses alcohol Prohibition with the sensible drug laws we have on the books today. Only a liberal can hyper-inflate dog shootings and no-knock raids into a solid reason to waive the white flag in the WOD and allow Mexican cartels to become legitimate business owners here in the US. Only a liberal could agree with Braney Frank and Ron Paul that dope should be legal. Only a liberal can hide behind the Constitutional and claim drugs are OK and should be legal
Not even the liberal nuts and fruits in California - when they had the chance - would vote in legal marijuana.
I could go on and on... but as we know... Liberalism is a mental disorder. And no amount of facts and logic will change pro-dopers minds.
Ah hah. I see. You are not a serious person. I’ll keep that in mind before wasting time on you in the future.
Yeah, but only a moron confuses "ending the Drug War" with "legalisation of drugs."
And I take it that “real conservative” have no problem with big, overbearing government so long as those jack-boots are enforcing your world view on others. “Real conservatives” like to see those boots on the throats of people who dare to disagree with them, it that it?
I have a different name for folks like that. They are authoritarians. And they are dangerous people. Because in the end, they are no different than Mao, or Stalin or any other tin pot who believed in imposing their will on people who disagreed with their world view.
Liberalism is a mental disorder. And no amount of facts and logic will change pro-dopers minds.
I haven't seen any facts or logic from you. Just assertions and name calling.
Oh, wait. Maybe in your myopic world SHOUTING your fact free assertions passes for "logic".
Talk about droll...
I haven’t read all the posts but I didn’t see any cop defenders, of which we have a few on FR. Come on, where are you? Defend these bas*ardly creeps with badges and guns!!
I believe you have put your finger on one of the biggest problems we now face. The main difference between them and us, is that they eager and willing to use the guns they have. We are not. Until this attitude changes, they will continue to indiscriminately kill us and our pets. We haven't figured out yet, that we're at war. They are waging an undeclared war against us, and we aren't fighting back.
I don't have a problem with the cops shooting a dog that is really a threat, but it seems that in a lot of these cases it isn't necessary to use a gun as the first option. At 13, I was a paperboy in Alaska where they keep dogs big enough to drive off the bears. I had to deal with quite a number of aggressive dogs on my route but I never needed to shoot one.
I think you are full of shit officer.
I can’t recall a golden retriever ever biting anyone.
Besides your constant steroid induced breaking down doors causes this type of reaction in a dog.
He is doing his job, instinctively and you know it, yet you make no provisions for securing an animal in your ops.
Who here in this thread has argued for the legalization of drugs?
Why are you inventing arguments for other posters instead of addressing the actual opinions brought forth?
I’ve had them all my life and only one time did a female go after someone. He was dangerous. She stopped when I called her.
It seems to be standard operating proceedure to shot pets. Witness accounts should be taken into account. It should no longer be assumed an officer was in real danger and had to shoot an animal just because he says so. If we can not stop the brutality, then make the cops were a camera at all times. The ones who abuse their power are going to wreck our justice system if we don’t stop them with more professional operating practices and supervision.
