I am a 62 year old engineer who is wheelchair bound. I just got laid off from my job, and I have applied to like 50 jobs so far with no success. I doubt I find one before the election because everyone is afraid to hire because of the uncertainty, and with Obamacare looming, I don't blame them. If Obama is re-elected I am afraid my goose is cooked along with millions of others in the same shape that I am. It's not my nature to seek handouts, so applying for disabilty, social security, etc. is not an option for me, as long as I know that I have the skills to perform a job well. All I can say is damn that. We must defeat Obama. There is no other choice.
God willing you'll find another job soon. Prayers up.
Godspeed. It’ll pass, youll see.
Thanks friends. I really appreciate that.
You’re going to have to work smart and make your own job. Don’t depend on someone else to hire you. Maybe some of their former clients like your work???
Unemployment comp and social security are not handouts. You paid for them. Take them if you need them.
And if it won’t make you hurl to consider it, take a job with a federal contractor or with state or federal government. They’re required to hire a certain number of disabled people and over-60 employees. You will help them kill two birds with one stone.
don’t know how mobile you are. A friend buys used blue jeans at Goodwill and second hand store and sells them on Ebay. Most sales are out of the country, but shipping cost is figured in. She’s been doing it for two years. Last year she made twice as much as she did in the job she had previously.
Look around. There are options.
“under the shadow of thy wings shall be my refuge, until this tyranny be overpast.” Psalm 57:1.
1. You are legally and morally entitled to Social Security, to the extent that you paid into that Ponzi scheme as an involuntary pension fund. I plan to draw on it when I retire, and you're not a moocher if you do so in this situation. Total up how much you have "invested" in that program - they'll send you the information if you request it http://www.ssa.gov/mystatement/ . You'll feel better about getting some of your money back, and that's (in my opinion) the right moral decision for you to make. You can always moderate that choice by determining a fair return on your investment and comparing what you (and your employer in lieu of paying the money to you) paid in plus interest with what you are drawing out.
2. By identifying as an engineer, you've just implied that you are intelligent, hard-working, and methodical. Considering that the survival of our country is at stake in this election, and the skills found in most engineers can be helpful in political campaigns, there is probably a natural solution to the twin problems of the 2012 election and no job to use up your time. I'm a professional pollster (you might have guessed from my screen name), and I'm spending this year focused on what I can do to improve the overall election outcome rather than just on my income from consulting to support random people who hire me.
I hope things work out for you. Whatever — and I know it’s not easy — try to think more of your blessings....You’re absolutely right. We have to drive that Marxist out of office.
What kind of engineer are you?
Ouch.
H1Bs can still find work here. Thanks to our government.
My house will be praying for you, and continuing to pray for this country to be released from Obama’s grasp.
If we can Help this Guy..
We need to register one person to vote
Just talking to a Cambodian man at my job I learned that His Father was Murdered by the Communists in Cambodia.
I told Him Obama was a communist at Heart.
I explained that Obama’s evetry action was destroying this country...He understood and even though He was afraid to vote...He is going to register and His wife also...
When we send this Muslimsympathising Marxist Bastard packing....Jobs will return.
God Bless America the Greatest Nation in the World.
Most of the job apps I have put in are with government jobs here in Huntsville, Alabama, since they are plentiful here. Apparently they are not hiring from the private sector at the moment. The jobs, I think, are being taken by people moving around within the government domain. A government position is not my first choice, but in my condition the benefits are worth more to me than the money. I am not discouraged, but I am more than a little pissed that this administration has screwed with the economic situation until everyone is afraid to hire. I think that if he is defeated in November that things will change overnight, like flowers springing to life with the rise of the morning sun. Well that depends on how Romney would govern, but I think it would get us out of the dark and back into sunlight.
If you are a PE you can definitly make your own work. I find that working for myself to be quite rewarding. It gives me opportunities that I would never have working for someone else. And since you do not like the idea of being on the government dole why do you want to be on someone elses dole - ie. a worker bee who just gets a paycheck while working towards a pink slip?
Some people say to me that they don’t have what it takes to run their own business. I say they just haven’t found that part of themselves that can.
Good Luck and Godspeed.
You may be forced to go on SS benefits while working part time somewhere. That’s been going around a lot lately.
Electrical, and I have spent most of my career as an electronics design engineer in communications. I also do lots of programming and various languages.
>> s not my nature to seek handouts, so applying for disabilty, social security, etc. is not an option for me<<
My FRiend, these are NOT handouts.
You paid into SSI and disability INSURANCE as well as unemployment INSURANCE.
If your car was rear-ended by an uninsured motorist, would you refuse repairs even though you paid your insurance premiums?
Social Security (and derivatives) may be a ponzi scheme, but for the moment that isn’t your row to how. Likewise, getting back what you invested in insurance programs.
These benefits are YOURS — bought and paid for.
Take them — it isn’t welfare.
