Right. I was laid off at 59, after 35 years with my employer and had 9 months before my pension would begin. It was lean times living on zero income until then.

Employer kept me listed as “unpaid leave of absence” until age 60 and full medical until age 65, when Medicare would kick in. That was done to avoid lawsuit.

I elected to take SS at 62, after over 40 years of paying into the scheme. ....Statistics and my own obversations of long-time co-workers indicated that people that try to hold off on SS until age 67 to get more $$ per month DON’T get back as much as those who go SS at 62, because they die sooner. ...........I’ll be 70 in August.
