Good afternoon/evening FReepers. Yep, it is Beer Thirty Time Once Again!

Happiness is a bubbling airlock And a Cold Homebrew!

Airlock

I trust y’all had a great 4th of July. This morning I bottled the Copper Ale that I brewed on June 7th. It was bottled after two weeks in the primary and two weeks plus a few days in the secondary. I am still enjoying the Honey Ale I bottled on June 20th. This ale has matured nicely over time and has a wonderful aroma and taste. The carbonation has come along nicely and develops a beautiful white long lasting head in my Mason jar mug. I need to brew up another batch of beer soon to keep my homebrews flowing because they are just so tasty and I created and enjoy them right at home!

I hope all of you and your Brews and Wines are doing well. Stop by and share what you are brewing or let us know what your favorite brew, wine or spirit is.

Holding off until cooler weather and I’ve got a few lager kits to go into fall stocking-up mode with.

Making plans to brew, but got a bottle of Bombay Sapphire gin for gin and tonics. It’s hit 104 here in good old Indiana the last several days.

I did pick up a 12 pack of the Sam Adams Summer beers for drop-in guests.

Made beer back in the day. The best stuff EVER - substitute sugar with honey. Not ONE complaint. Most non-beer drinkers who tried it requested more.

Bought a gallon of apple juice for the kids to enjoy on the 4th.
And for me to use its glass jug for brewing when it’s empty.
Drink up kids, dad has plans!

In my free time I am continuing to research what it will take to partake in this hobby. Yesterday I was researching bottles. This led to a session of Petruchio’s Patented Monkey Math . . .

The best price locally was $12.95 for a case of 24 - 12 oz. amber bottles. Or $0.54 each.

At my local Booze-R-us, a 12 pack of Sam Adams was $10. Or $0.83 each.

Remove the cost of the bottles from both sides of the equation and I find I can drink Sam Adams Summer Ale for $0.29 each. [grin]

So, here I sit, avoiding the 100+ temps outside, drinking my 29 cent Sam Adams beers while I contemplate more important issues like the origins of bellybutton lint.

Once I have a stockpile of bottles, I will be one step closer to the goal.

We bought some Espiral Vinho Verde wine at Trader Joe’s today for $4.99/bottle, and it is definitely worth more than we paid. Very refreshing in the 100-degree weather we’re having here in Kentucky.

I also dropped by the Beer Trappe and picked up some Duvel and a bottle of Gale’s Prize Old Ale. Yum!

I used to like Bombay Gin and other spirits but they really do me in. I still get a bottle of Jack Daniels now and then for making BBQ sauces and cooking.

That is the only way to collect bottles! Buy your favorite commercial beer in bottles and save them. All you will need are new caps and a capping tool.

RD, there is a very good Austrian red wine called Berger Zweigelt that comes in capped (and recappable) one-liter bottles....perfect for homebrew. I’ve gone through a case of it pretty quickly.....

You can read about it here:

The Beer Trappe looks like a great place. Wish I had something like that near me.

It's easy to lose track of time in the Beer Trappe. They now have about 600 different beers in bottles, all excellent stuff.

The craft beer scene in Lexington is exploding. Specialty beer-bars and microbreweries with taprooms are springing up like mushrooms. If you are ever out this way, let me know and I'll be glad to give you a tour.

Still savoring my first batch, right now, counting on this thread. Bought some Imperial Ale ingredients today but I have to buy a brewing fridge this weekend just to keep it from going over 78F in this weather while it ferments. That’s OK with me, gonna need one anyway when I start brewing lagers.
