Hope y’all enjoy.
Holding off until cooler weather and I’ve got a few lager kits to go into fall stocking-up mode with.
Made beer back in the day. The best stuff EVER - substitute sugar with honey. Not ONE complaint. Most non-beer drinkers who tried it requested more.
Bought a gallon of apple juice for the kids to enjoy on the 4th.
And for me to use its glass jug for brewing when it’s empty.
Drink up kids, dad has plans!
In my free time I am continuing to research what it will take to partake in this hobby. Yesterday I was researching bottles. This led to a session of Petruchio’s Patented Monkey Math . . .
The best price locally was $12.95 for a case of 24 - 12 oz. amber bottles. Or $0.54 each.
At my local Booze-R-us, a 12 pack of Sam Adams was $10. Or $0.83 each.
Remove the cost of the bottles from both sides of the equation and I find I can drink Sam Adams Summer Ale for $0.29 each. [grin]
So, here I sit, avoiding the 100+ temps outside, drinking my 29 cent Sam Adams beers while I contemplate more important issues like the origins of bellybutton lint.
Once I have a stockpile of bottles, I will be one step closer to the goal.
We bought some Espiral Vinho Verde wine at Trader Joe’s today for $4.99/bottle, and it is definitely worth more than we paid. Very refreshing in the 100-degree weather we’re having here in Kentucky.
I also dropped by the Beer Trappe and picked up some Duvel and a bottle of Gale’s Prize Old Ale. Yum!
bottled a batch of Olde Scrote the other day... and a batch of Niagra white wine...
Just bought a book on making root beer... :) (I miss Hosmer Mountain’s ROOT BEER)
Just ordered all the extra stuff I need to make watermelon wine: extra fermenter, Yeast, Yeast supplement etc. Got at least 5 big melons ripening in the garden at the same time....
Going to Brew up another Belgian Ale this weekend.
Been homebrewing since 1990. Living on a farm has cut down on my free time and it’s too damn hot here in Texas during the summer. Come fall, it’s my orange, ginger, cinnamon and honey brown ale. It’s great! I like the big 22 oz bottles. They cost more than the little ones I got dumpster diving, but they are worth it. For the folks worried about cost, the equipment lasts forever. I’m using the same fermenters and brew pot I bought back then.
may I suggest a post with the prior thread links too
thanks
Given the hot weather I’m doing partial mashes indoors. Right now it’s ales, but with a cheap second-hand refrigerator you can manage lagers as well.
Long day and an even longer one tomorrow, so no time for beer for me tonight.
UFC tomorrow night tho so I will make up for lost thirst!
Airlock is bubbling away in the closet =)
