(Excerpt) Read more at movies.yahoo.com ...
Some comments on the list
Conan the Barbarian - Never saw all of it.
The Road Warrior - Good post-apocalypse flick that has not aged well.
Rocky III - Never saw it.
Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan - One of the best ST films
Poltergeist - OK
E.T. - Never saw it, hope I never will.
Blade Runner - One of my fav’s, but prefer the director’s cut.
The Thing - Never saw it.
Secret of NIMH - Never saw it.
Tron - Cool effects, boring storyline. Arcade game even worse.
The Pretentious Crapfest Known as The World According to Garp - Agreed.
An Officer and a Gentleman - Could never get through the entire movie.
Night Shift - Mindless comedy.
Pink Floyds The Wall - This might be better if you are stoned (I wasn’t).
Fast Times and Ridgemont High - Phoebe Cates. ‘Nuf said.
1982 movies not on the list:
Porky’s
48 Hrs.
The Year of Living Dangerously
The Verdict
Diner (How could they leave this out?)
Gandhi
First Blood
Sorry, but none of these movies impressed me much at all.
Thanks for listing that. Really none of them are ones I’d recommend. “Night Shift”? Really??
1966. The Sand Pebbles. Flight of the Phoenix. Never equaled.
Agreed, but I would also add "Sean Penn's greatest role"
Blade Runner in my opinion is one of the best sci fi movies of all time. Unlike Star Wars there isn’t one cheesy moment in the whole movie. It’s incredible.
Ridley Scott has announced that he has either a prequel or sequel to Blade Runner in the planning stages.
I don't know, given the Obama energy policy "Road Warrior" could be considered a survival training film.
“Pink Floyds The Wall - This might be better if you are stoned (I wasnt).”
Heh, you’re probably right about that one. I got dragged to a midnight movie showing of The Wall and was bored to tears. I enjoyed the music, but I didn’t care much one way or the other about the storyline...whatever it was.
Wow. Many of these are far better than the original list:
Porkys - Mindless teenage comedy. Never saw all of it.
48 Hrs. - “ROXANNE!!!!!!”
The Year of Living Dangerously - Probably one of Mel Gibson’s best roles.
The Verdict - I vaguely remember this one.
Diner (How could they leave this out?) - Agreed. A more mature comedy than “Porky’s” or “Night Shift”.
Gandhi - Too long and boring
First Blood - Mindless action film
I feel old.
“...1966. The Sand Pebbles. Flight of the Phoenix. Never equaled....”
True, that. However, IMHO, the remake of “The Flight of the Phoenix” was a better than average remake of a previous movie, as far as remakes go.
Love your tagline too..Whats in the trunk, Ace? I think that was a couple years later though.
"Starship Troopers" is a classic, IMHO. Macho Space Marines zapping bugs with hand held nukes, while hot chicks slink around in the altogether. What's not to like?
Consider yourself lucky.
I’m surprised they don’t have Tootsie or Sophie’s Choice on the list since they were both big Oscar nominees.
......and 30 years later, here I am, still one.
Likely, the best use of gratuitous nudity in a feature film, ever. Top three, certainly. And I can't think of two more.
