Toured the Cummins Unit of the Arkansas Department of Corrections last week. The only thing I could relate it to was Angola, LA.
The heat and haze was intense as the crews rode out and in on cart trains pulled by a tractor, with 5 armed horseback officers surrounding each 60-70 man detail.
18000 acres of bottom ground, much of which was vegetables that were hand-hoed by these crews to feed the rest of the ADC.
Its something you have to see to apprehend.

The only Brubaker I am aware of is Curtis Brubaker. He designed this in the late 60's. I wanted one...still do.

Parchman is the one I haven’t seen. They said something like 95% of the inmates at Angola would die there. The ones in the broom factory were happy to be out of the fields. The ones in the vegetable freezer plant thought they were already in heaven.

Building tenders was the story, not RR.
You’d have fared well I’m sure.

I’m not just a bleeding heart- I;ve spent a long time in the business but injustice displeases our God.
Thanks.

Yeah. I was living on Columbus at the time. A lot of interesting stories came out about the old prison that was used for the film.
Not very many of the flattering to the Ohio Penal System at the time.
Many of the 'extras' were former prison inmates from the central Ohio area. A motley group to be sure.

I remembger well that AR once would brag, once in our prison system, it will make one think twice about coming back.

Same here, although I did watch it about 10 years ago.
My opinion: Nothing memorable.

Had these inmates no victims? Should the impoverished, sweating, laboring, ill-housed taxpayers of Arkansas dig a little deeper to pay for an air-conditioned life of leisure as a reward for criminals? Let’s not talk about injustice and God’s displeasure with a thumb on the scale.
