Thought destroyed but now found. It's not had the greatest care over the years and this group in Hollywood who are the acstual folks that have worked on the shows over the years is trying to raise funds and bid on an auction, restore and display properly the original full size Galileo shuttlecraft from the original Star Trek series. It's important TV history to preserve considering the impact Star Trek has had on society, inspiring even people to become astronauts.
Please throw in a few bucks for this, and watch the video at the fund raising site...

I thought it got destroyed just as Spok and crew were getting beamed up onto the Enterprise?
What kind of logic? The logic that says to me if you use Free Republic to solicit monies for some entity the solicitations should be for new servers for Free Republic.
I would believe once the obligations to Free Republic are satisfied then perhaps we could then donate to the other situations IMO of lesser value than Free Republic the source you are using to solicit donations at.
I’m not looking to start a fight. I’m looking at reason here. We just took two freakin’ months to collect enough monies to keep FR currently in operation, and now instead of sending in enough dough for new servers we are being solicited to send monies to restore a science fiction prop.
It doesn’t make sense.
Some people just cant grasp that fantasy and escapism, directed properly, makes human existence a much more enjoyable endeavor. Profitable too, since much of today’s accomplishments were once a ‘fantasy’.
Swell, a link to leftist gibberish.
Well ask to have my thread deleted then.
This is the general chat section isn’t it?
It’s not all about politics sometimes.
Life is larger then that.
It will never happen. Leftists don't believe in Enterprise.
Did you read the list? It was created to show how many things were more worthy of spending money on, than “fighting global warming”. The list is in order of benefit/cost ratio. Notice where they put expenditures related to “global warming — in the “bad projects” list.
When this list was published — leftists, envirofascists, and global warmists (but, I repeat myself) had a hissy fit.
You asked for a link to a list — I gave it to you. If you think you can come up with a better one, have at it.
I’ve read many of your commentaries over the years, and you HAD my respect as a participating FReeper, but that last response was so completely off base I have to reconsider that respect.
Where did I say anything about the necessity to stick to politics? I didn’t. The discussion is about solicitations of donations, and the perspective that FR deserves the donations for those sorely needed servers ahead of any others.
I don’t know what else to say, I just think this
is a worthy cause worth a few bucks.
I don’t think it detracts from keeping FR servers humming.
“I dont know what else to say, I just think this
is a worthy cause worth a few bucks.”
I didn’t say it wasn’t.
“I dont think it detracts from keeping FR servers humming.”
I didn’t say it does.
In case you haven’t noticed FR’s servers are old, and inadequate to keep up with the growth in traffic, and often fail. We’ve had numerous discussions at FR about the problem, and attempts to collect enough money to upgrade the servers met with a plethora of negativism from too many know-it-alls that the attempts to upgrade have been thwarted.
My point is that if FR isn’t deserving of, or the first for the donations, then we shouldn’t be using FR to solicit donations for something of less importance than the upkeep, the upgrade of the host of your request?
I hope this clears up the misunderstanding.
“Weve had numerous discussions at FR about the problem, and attempts to collect enough money to upgrade the servers met with a plethora of negativism from too many know-it-alls that the attempts to upgrade have been thwarted.”
Baloney.
No need to get defensive. If you like your list, by all means enjoy it. lol.
The best scene on star trek series IMO.
The best scene on star trek series IMO.
Here’s only three links to discussion as I mentioned. Ultimately Freepers didn’t want to pay the additional, and Jim said he’d find some other way to pay for the upgrades.

There was far more discussion regarding this, some of that discussion getting downright boisterous, and in fact beyond civil at times, but I couldn’t find those discussions in the system unfortunately.
Multiple discussions started by Jim Robinson were initiated in the first Freepathon of this year, and carried into the most recent.
There were also multiple vanities by various members on the topic as well, but again I’m not finding them in my searches. Perhaps you might be able to find them as you seem so confident in your proclamations.
I wouldn't bother with some utopian global list or any such quixotic pursuit.
I do, however, encourage the promotion of first principles here in the USA.
Sadly something has gone afoul and this funding attempt is now cancelled. I can attest that my donation was refunded in full.
Something must have fell apart as the big Trek names backing it pulled out.
So for my fellow original Trek fans, let’s hope the right person bids, wins, restores right and puts in a museum.
Maybe I win the lotto next week.
“I do, however, encourage the promotion of first principles here in the USA.”
No argument from me. Mind if we borrow some of them?
