MA Veteran sues anti-war apartment owner.

I always say “If you are going to war, go like Romans, or stay home.”
“... Why would this,as you say brave warrior, want to rent from an anti-American?”
Probably didn’t know it at the time, and found out why later.
If I were that veteran, I’d sue the pants off that landlord.
This Vet only wanted to rent an apartment, with a little justice, he could wind up being the proud owner of an entire apartment complex.
As a landlord with a Veteran husband whose service sent him to Vietnam - I am torn on this one.
Landlords barely have any rights in MA.
If this apartment is a multi-family with the landlord living there- they do have some more rights to be more choosy.
They can choose not allow children, not rent to unmarried couples, not rent based on religious beliefs (which I guess technically this landlord is spouting).
But, if the apartment is not in the same building as the landlords residence - all bets are off....
Some people think that if they don’t like the Commander in Chief, they should take it out on our troops.
Unless she has some other reason, a reason that is valid under the law, she must rent to him. The I dont respect his views will never last long in court.
Perhaps. But then she would just evict him for even the most minor infraction of the lease rules.
I hope it's a nice property. If I were on the jury, he would OWN the apartment!
So this soldier has no civil rights because the war had been dragging on?
Thank you! I hope he does too!
War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself.
- John Stuart Mill
I’m with both of you. It bites she doesn’t want to rent to him, but it’s her property and she should be free to rent to whom she pleases.
exactly. The greatest evil is to drag out the fighting so it never ends.
My idea of civil rights and yours are obviously different.
The property owner trumps the leasee in my opinion
That was when wars had an end
I find it hard to believe that you think this soldier’s civil rights have been rendered null and void because the war lasted longer than it should have.
I agree about individual property rights. No matter how despicable the reason this woman has a right to rent to or not rent to whoever she chooses.
As does the former marine who runs the local diner
and the former Army grunt that runs the auto repair shop
The former Seabee that does construction work....
that is NOT what I said. I even clarified what I said in the second post.
Just one problem with your position - If I owned property and rented it out, but refused to rent out the property to someone because they are _________ (Black,Hispanic, Asian, Muslim, Am. Indian, Homosexual, female, etc.) then I would be subject to a discrimination suit, and I would lose. Since the libtards have put such a roadblock against property owners being able to rent their property to whomever they wish with respect to the liberal agenda, here is a situation where the libtards will get a taste of their own medicine. I hope the Vet sues and wins big.
Not in Butte County, California it doesn't. On our Primary ballot was a measure which would have given property owners the ability to refuse to rent to someone who grows pot on that property (among other restrictions the ballot measure would have provided). However, the "voters" of Butte Co turned down the measure (in reality, it was the libtard college students who do not even live in Butte Co, but are allowed to vote in our local elections).
