Really love this kind of thing, and want to share it with other FReepers. Somebody posted a US one months ago, and a lot of people enjoyed it.

THAT was nice...!!

Sometimes I wonder about modern technology. Has it hurt us in the long run?

IMHO, 60 years hasn't produced a huge change. The biggest change occurred thanks to the industrial revolution.

The electronic revolution is producing another massive change. It is also producing "isolation and wasted time".

I'd sure like to go back to where they were putting my groceries in the car, pumping my gas, stamping my savings account book, the milkman, the egg man.....and everyone says hi....and please and thank you.

Of course there were also these photos 10 years earlier. Seems like the country changed a lot in those 10 years too.

Great Britain 60 Years Ago

Great Britain Today

I spoke with a friend living in the UK about a year ago. He told me that average British citizens have finally realized the horror that has been unleashed on their nation by Muslims. The Muslims take the hospital beds, go on the dole (welfare), have tons of children at public expense, get free flats (apartments), don't pay council (like our state or local) taxes, don't pay national income taxes, always protest about their "rights!" and go looking for trouble, commit tons of crimes, practice tribal racism, violate the nation's laws and get away with it, etc, etc, etc.

Yes, those are lovely pics of a once great country.
England, however, may be going down the tubes faster then the USSA.
Muzies and Africans from former colonies are flooding into the country and destroying it just as the Marxist and Afros are destroying the USA.

Here are a couple of the many good comments:

Idylic. Fantastic pictures. Sure, people went without a lot but most appreciated what they had. I know my parents did, they never understood this ‘new’ world. A close knit family, love, laughter & fun. Hard work, self respect. I was lucky being born in 1957, I have great memories of my safe & loving childhood, I was lucky. So much has changed, some for the better but mostly materially, that alone doesn’t bring love, security or discipline. The culture & ethics in this Country has changed beyond recognition & for me, not for the better. So, if I could go back in a Time Machine to the simplistic days of old England & the people & characters that made it Great, I would.

Everyone that says it was lovely back then - they are the same people that have voted parties that have allowed it to change beyond recognition and stood by and done nothing whilst it has changed so drastically. It was the older generations that made all the changes since the 50’s and 60’s and yet still talk about the good old days, whilst often moaning and slating younger generations. It did not change overnight. It happened under your watch and with your backing in elections. Take a look at the education system, for example, it was changed by the older generations and younger generations have and are paying the price. If it was all so great, why did you allow it to change?

Color photography really does an excellent job preserving the past and brings you back in time. Imagine if we had this kind of photography available in the 19th and 18th centuries!

My earliest memories of of the mid-1960s and I can still remember what my neighborhood looked like back then. I used to ride my tricycle around the block as a 5 year old and I remember postman, milkman and even the ice cream truck making the rounds. Strangers would hand me lollipops and other candies. These days, that would get you arrested as a pervert!

If we made drastic changes and got rid of the Social Welfare State, people would have a lot less stuff.

And they'd be much happier.

If you like this sort of thing I recommend that you read the Miss Read books, the Thrush Green Series and the Fairacre Series.
