The mother of Rudy Eugene, who was shot and killed by a police officer as he chewed the face off a homeless man in Miami, says her son was "a nice kid" who could have been subdued with a Taser rather than gunfire.
"He was a good kid. He gave me a nice card on Mother’s Day. Everyone says he was a zombie. He was no zombie. That was my son,” the mother, who asked that her name not be revealed, told CNN affliate WFOR.
Eugene, 31, was killed by a police officer on Saturday after an 18-minute attack on a homeless man, identified by police as 65-year-old Ronald Poppo. Video of the incident shows Eugene coming across Poppo on a sidewalk along Miami's MacArthur Causeway, stripping clothes off him and eventually chewing on his face.
Police said Poppo lost 75% of his face in the attack. He was in critical condition at a Miami hospital.
Eugene's mother said police didn't need to shoot her son.
"They could have tased him," she told WFOR. "I saw what happened on TV and I started crying.”

I'm so sick of hearing this garbage from the family members of these modern-day monsters. They're all good boys who just got caught up with the wrong people...yada, yada, yada. The police shouldn't have shot her son? I wish I was the reporter she was talking to, I'd have asked her if she'd be willing to have someone chew off 3/4 of her face while I just tase them.

We had a local deputy try to taser a nut with a hammer. The taser failed and the deputy got hit in the head with a hammer to the tune of a severe concussion and 40 staples in his melon. The only thing that saved him was two back up officers and 12 rounds of .40 cal.

If it was drugs (most likely), maybe the mom should be campaigning against that particular substance.
No doubt his mom is horrified, too. No one raises their kid to go chew people's faces off.
It's pretty crappy all around.

Enabling is a form of child abuse. Time after time you hear these parents (usually mothers) who make excuses for their children (usually sons) after they commit crimes— even murders. This is obviously a life long pattern that begins at a very young age. “My Johnny can do no wrong”. We have all run into these parents at some time .
Me thinks the victim would think otherwise Mommy san. Of course his limited interaction with your “nice kid” put him in the hospital fighting for his life and if he is blessed enough to have more time he will have only the use of 20 % of his face and that was left just because apparently your son does like to eat beard.

The police, however, seem to think it was bath salts, which apparently is all the rage among druggies now and does cause hallucinations and violent reactions.
