G.I. Joe won't be going into action on the big-screen this summer, after all.
The Hollywood Reporter says Paramount Pictures yanked its sequel "G.I. Joe: Retaliation" from its June 29 release date and rescheduled the movie for March 29 next year.

It must really suck. What’s next? Release straight to DVD?
This makes no sense, no-how.
The production money has been spent. The marketing dollars have been spent, the post-production, editing, special effects and soundtrack are all done. This is money that has already been spent.
The release date is just a month away, time to reap some cash from all that expense ... and they are pulling it for a year? What are they thinking?
Didn’t see the first one, but my cynical mind keeps hinting that a certain upcoming election might have something to do with this.
Why is it that everytime I see a story about a GI Joe remake I think some producer is remaking the Robert Mitchum and Burgess Meredith classic. Just hoping I guess.
GI Job might inflame those pro america types.
and/or
It may have a clearer field later.
and/or
it is good and they want to promote it more (and make toys for sale) OR it really stinks so they need less competition.
With battleship on screens it may be too much.
Bingo! That’s EXACTLY what I was thinking.
Watch the latest trailer...look at the storyline. I think you are dead right. Otherwise; this makes NO sense.
It’s a risky move, but they’re probably looking at the finite disposable incomes of the Summer action blockbuster having been significantly depleted with The Avengers and about to be totally depleted with Dark Knight Rises.
When I saw the release schedule for this Summer the first word that came to mind was “oversaturation”. There’s only so much entertainment revenue to go around, so a second/third tier, non-niche action flick like this doesn’t stand a chance. Better to delay to a safer release date next Spring.
Do you know what the plotline was? A man is in the Oval Office who is not an American citizen. He is a manchurian candidate who turns over the security of the USA to Cobra. GI Joe team is betrayed and many are killed. The survivors look to a legendary leader and the original joe Bruce Willis to lead them against this president and his Cobra goons.
The ‘excuse’ they are using is that they need the ‘additional time’ for 3D enhancements. That’s bullsh*t, of course.

I saw the trailer and it looked like someone had replaced the president with a Corba person and they were running the country like Obama....
After reading #10, I think we have our reason.
They want to make way for Leni Reifenstahl’s (I mean Katherine Bigelow’s) movie portrayal of the Bin Laden killing.
Just read the comments at Breitbart. My cynicism seems to have been well founded.
must be it provides an uncomfortable reminder of “cut and run” in Iraq and Afghanistan...
Supposedly they’re going to go back and make it into a 3-D movie. It hasn’t been tracking well and they’re hoping that making it 3-D will help.
The scene with the COBRA banners unfurling in the front of the White House are pretty creepy.
Prometheus was scheduled to come out two weeks before and Spiderman a week after. That would also leach a lot of money away.
What is COBRA in the movie?
