I'll Have Another won the Preakness Stakes at Pimlico in Baltimore, Maryland.
The winner of the Kentucky Derby last time out, Doug O'Neill's colt confirmed his superiority over those reopposing with an impressive display in the second leg of America's Triple Crown.
Despite winning the Run For The Roses, the son of Flower Alley was sent off as second favourite with punters expecting Derby second, Bodemeister, to reverse the form with many feeling he had paid the price for setting too fast a pace at Churchill Downs.
Mike Smith eased Bob Baffert's charge to the front from gate nine and Bodemeister appeared to be doing everything easily out in front with a soft lead.
Mario Gutierrez had I'll Have Another settled in third but with the leader kicking off the turn into the straight and pinching a couple of lengths advantage the pair looked up against it.
Gutierrez, however, didn't panic and his mount gradually made clawed back the deficit to get his head in front on the wire, getting the verdict in a photo.
The pair finished clear of Creative Cause with Zetterholm in fourth.
I'll Have Another, owned by Reddam Racing Llc, was a first runner in the Preakness Stakes for his trainer and could become the first horse to complete the Triple Crown since 1978.
I think I’ll Have Another might be the real deal. Bodemeister was pulling away from the entire field the whole stretch, didn’t give an inch and I’ll Have Another still picked him up at the wire. As impressive a win as you’ll see. He’s got a chance in New York.
Yeah-it sure was an exciting race!
I like the ring of, “I’ll Have Another Won” :-)
Is that “Looter Guy” in the background on the right?
He’s in amazing condition, that’s for sure.
LMAO!
Hell of a race. This horse really is the class of the 3 year olds and ran down a worthy and fast contender today...only question I have is does he have anything left for the grueling Belmont? Big question.
Is his first name Thank You Sir?
Simply fun to watch.....and Mike Smith is not easily beaten.
“I’ll Have Another” needs just another. Beautiful athletic horse. Wish him well.
When his jock went to the whip at the top of the stretch, I didn't see how he could maintain that pace to the wire.
But he was just hand-riding him the last burst. Horse reached back and got a little something extra.
Very fine performance. I wish him the best.
Yes it was. I was on the edge of my seat watching it. I sure hope there will be a triple crown winner this year.
Love the horse and LOVE the jockey. Trainer is a total crook.
One more time!
I couldn’t believe that win!! I felt like the guy on the left in the pic in post #2, with his hands on his head!
When the one I choose wins, then I LOVE the replay when it is over.
Belmont will be really special this year!
This horse does not like to be beaten. Kinda’ like Seabiscuit. Very exciting race. I’m hoping for a Triple Crown winner.
Any Freepers game to go to the Belmont?
