JOHANNESBURG
The photos taken by a tourist from Scotland show his wife on the ground, hair flying, blood on her neck, with two cheetahs nearby.
The Port Elizabeth Herald reported Friday that Violet D'Mello of Aberdeen, Scotland, was attacked by cheetahs on April 28 while in a petting pen with the animals at a game reserve near Port Elizabeth in southeastern South Africa.
It says she was attacked while trying to protect young children from another group that was in the enclosure at the same time. Her husband took photos of the attack, which were published by the local newspaper and others.
One of the photos taken by Archie D'Mello shows Violet D'Mello smiling and posing with a cheetah raised by humans in the enclosure, before, as she told the Herald, "it became serious very quickly."
One of two cheetahs in the enclosure first grabbed a young girl, leaving her with scratches and cuts that needed stitches, the Herald reported. D'Mello tried to calm the child and her brother, and ended up also being attacked. She told the BBC she had numerous bite and puncture marks, and that her scalp was "sliced open."
The cheetahs "weren't being vicious. You could tell they were just excited," Violet D'Mello told the Herald.
The Herald said park staff and other visitors pulled the cats off. The D'Mellos continued their holiday in South Africa.

Really LOL!
Or perhaps O'de young wildebeast.
If you and your wife went to a petting zoo and while your wife posed for a picture with the cheetahs and the cheetahs turn on your wife, biting and scratching her, you have a choice between jumping in and saving her life or taking photos that will bring you wealth and fame. So what shutter speed would you use?
You can always find another wife but great pictures only come once!
Her husband must be a mooselimb!
reminds me of those filmmakers who watched a baby penguin die in a pot-hole sized hole instead of helping it get out.
Ever since I saw this story a couple of years ago I've wondered when . . . .
During his SNL days, Dan Ackroyd played a character named Irwin Mainway, who ran a company that sold extremely dangerous toys to children. This place sounds like a business enterprise he would have promoted.
CONSUMER REPORTER (Jane Curtain): "Mr. Mainway, do you really think it's a good idea to have a petting zoo stocked with large, man-eating carnivores? A young child could be torn to shreds by one of these cheetahs."
IRWIN MAINWAY (Dan Ackroyd): No, no there's no problem here, it's perfectly safe. Let's face it, kids love animals, and what is a cheetah anyway, except a large pussycat? It's a great place to bring the kids. The kids love it!"
Good lord..lady....used to the rough trade eh?
“... always find another wife but great pictures only come once”.
Tsk, tsk, Swampsniper! You’re a bad, bad boy! (LOL)

When my kitty licks her lips, she’s smelled something she wants to eat. I’m wondering if the lady had something on her hair or some perfume that set the cat off.
The woman is more of a guy than her husband. The husband is a wuss.
The local news anchorman this morning seemed disgusted that the guy didn’t jump in there and get the children and let his wife get mauled.
Lucky they were cheetas and not leopards.
She sailed away on a happy summer day on the back of a crocodile,
“You see,” said she, “he’s as tame as tame can be;
I’ll ride him down the Nile,”
The croc winked his eye as she bade them all goodbye, wearing a happy smile,
At the end of the ride the lady was inside, and the smile was on the crocodile!
But, how often does the chance of getting a prize winning shot like that come along?

“Honey, does this cheetah make me look fat?”
There’s no way those cats were gonna eat that lady because cheetahs never prosper.
