Amazing and disheartening news. Who would have thought 10 years ago that Best Buy would be CLOSING stores?
Perhaps if they were selling dreams of my Father, Mein Kamph, or Carl marx writings they would be too big to fail..
looks to me like they were too staurated in a few areas
The two in GA are in outer-fringe ATL suburbs, in more working class (vs. upscale) areas.
Hmm, I’m kind of surprised that the two stores closing in MD are in very urban, populated areas. But here, in a less densely populated area, the Best Buy is apparently staying.
If someone gave me a free 10k Best Buy shopping spree I would look for some way to sell it for cash or trade it for some lumber from Lowes.
Is there really a Manteca, CA? What a strange name for a town. I’m pretty sure it means either fat or lard in Spanish.
The Best Buys here in tax free NH remain open!
The Ft Myers store was in an area where heavy development was going on and then quit happening.
Amazon is killing them. People go to Best Buy to see what the best looking picture is, then buy their HDTV from Amazon.
The speedway location here is in a terrible spot and totally unneeded. Surprised it hadn’t closed earlier, TBH.
Exactly. They are a showroom. And they’ve been very very slow to get on board with their online presence. They’re a bloated pig and are nay now waking up to the reality that store-front retail is more than just being the only player in town.
Interesting article: Why Best Buy is Going out of Business...Gradually
http://www.forbes.com/sites/larrydownes/2012/01/02/why-best-buy-is-going-out-of-business-gradually/
It has to do with more people buying stuff online (made from China) than people stop buying at Best Buy..
Best Buy once had an outstanding product, but in recent years has been poorly managed and has alienated quite a few people with their return policies.
The local Fry's Electronics store here in Phoenix is a showroom type business as well, but we love going there and the deals are amazing. They advertize frequently in the local paper as well. Loads of killer deals.
Their online presence is miserable, however, practically forcing you to go to the store.
Our local Fry's is designed like a giant Aztec Temple. Pretty hilarious, actually.
Welcome to the ever-expanding Obama Economy.
This is a fine example of Obamanomics at its best.
