PhotobucketHappy Friday the 13th, and good morning fellow gardeners and FRiends! I hope that you are enjoying weather as beautiful as what we are experiencing here in NE Louisiana. Nights and mornings are cool and breezy, and the days very warm.

I've planted 1.6 acres of bi-color sweet corn. We checked the seed the next day and it had already sprouted, and was pegged the following day. Perfect conditions!

Looking forward to hearing what's going on in your neck o' the woods.

Hand crank, but I've got a big pully for it, so I'll eventually get around to adapting it to electric.

It is hard work to crank, but I don't mind a little exersize like that.

Good to hear your order from last year paid off! I am pretty sure the seeds I had saved from last year are at our house in Ms. I thought they had made it to Tx in the first wave of our move.

At least with a hand crank, you are prepared for times when the electricity goes out.LOL

LOL. Yes I had just given up on them, and was intending to call for a refund credit. So it all worked out afterall. Did you sell your house or are you renting it?

Not selling or renting it! I have a very good friend who checks on it about once a week and hired a guy to mow the yard about every two weeks.

Well, that is good. Have you checked with your Insurance agent? Most homeowners policies have a clause that renders them void after 30 days absence. Sometimes you have to change to DP Broad-form (If memory serves).

I just read last week where some Insurance company is trying to weasel out of paying for tornado damage, because the owners had been out of the house for a few months.

Their agent had assured them they “should be” ok; I have come to recognize that as weasel words, to be followed up with a request to please verify to me in writing what the actual known status is.

My daughter and son in law hooked one up to a bicycle to grind wheat.

I hope you all keep getting more rain. I remember you talking about your garden and fruit trees getting “cooked” last year.

I’ve meant to thank you for your help!
There were so many babies to remove it was quite a task!
I left the peaches closest to the trunk end of the branch, and those hanging down. They have already increased in size quite a bit!
I’m sorry about your peach tree. I planted 3 15ft honey locust last fall. Two have leafed out, the 3rd appears to be dead or dying. I wish staring at it, & looking for life would accomplish something! I hate to watch plants die.
Thank you, a lot!

My wife cooked your spicey squash cakes tonite and they are really great.

She moved your recipe from “good things to try” to “good things”!!

That’s great! My summer garden is still alive and well here in Texas. I’m only picking once a week, until the frost comes. I hope that your winter is full of tasty treats!
