It's going to get interesting at FR if Romney is nominated, innit??
Vanity | 23 March 2012 | Notary Sojac

I've put some heavy wear and tear on my keyboard making the point here that it's OK to loathe Romney, but to underestimate him is the act of a fool.

Those of us who have been on the "no Romney, no how!!" bandwagon here for the last year have had the luxury of believing that someone else would be able to keep Romney from the nomination.

That now appears increasingly unlikely, as we all are forced to face the fact that Freepers (and those out there who think like Freepers) are not a decisive majority in the Republican electorate. Not even close.

There are millions of long-time Republicans who are voting for Romney because he's a dignified, executive-looking gentleman who speaks in soothing patriotic platitudes. You don't have to like this, but it's true. (And no, they are not being operated by mind control rays from Karl Rove!)

So where does this leave us? Frankly I dunno. I would hope that those who advocate holding noses and voting for Romney don't get banned from FR. At the same time, I think it's very unlikely that I will vote for him. (I voted third party in 2008 in preference to McQueeg).

It won’t be interesting at all. Just look at this thread from last night and see how many FReepers are comfortable with Romney as the nominee ALREADY.

The Primary isn’t even close to over and the Convention is 6 months away and people have totally sold out. Very sad.

Right now Romney still needs close to fifty percent of the remaining delegates to win the nomination outright. If current trends hold he will not fall short.

Unfortunately, “current trends” don't usually hold for very long. Santorum and Newt are low on cash.

Most Romney supporters are of the “anyone by Obama” mindset. One could argue that if Romney is president and the GOP has the senate, that the GOP House and Senate will lead president Romney. Instead of Romney leading them.

"We were played.

First we were played on the subject of Rick Perry (Guardisil! Guardisil! OMG! Guardisil!), then we were played on the subject of Newt Gingrich (pre-Florida there was an anti-Newt tsunami here on FR).

We are conservatives and we are stupid."

I agree. If Romney is the nominee, I'll vote the rest of the ticket, but I'll be writing in Rick Perry for president.

Errrr.. the Constitution Party is promoting Virgil Goode, a lifelong Dem up until a few years ago. When he was a Republican he was one of the RINO poster children.

Yeah, that was amazing.

I've been a Newt supporter since early last summer, when "FR was PALIN COUNTRY" and man, I needed Kevlar to post here. "What about that pic with Pelosi? What about the healthcare mandate?" etc etc.

Then FR pivoted from "PALIN COUNTRY" to "NEWT COUNTRY" almost on a dime, and all the 'bots here pivoted in perfect harmony. Now it's like Newt has been their idol since the Bronze Age. Pathetic.

So where does this leave us?

...this leaves us with this:

...we must play the cards that we are dealt. I, for one, will support any R candidate that wins.

Romney, if he prevails, may not be the candidate that we all hope he would be, but with the help of a Conservative Congress, most of what we want done will get done, but it will not be pretty.

Our new Congress must consider changing their leaders.

I for one won’t support MittCare Romey.

But I will oppose Baby-Doc Barack.

Not too hard to walk that line...

Supreme Court nominations. We know what to expect from Obama with Romney there is at least a chance.

That's really the best motivator to vote for Mitt in the general election. Even that won't be enough for a lot of people.

Grassroots Conservatives started the Tea Party. We can start a Sarah Palin write in movement. Why do we have to just accept whatever dogcarp the GOPe "allows" us? Xcrew that!

It's time for us do to an end run around these clowns. There are more of us than there are Karl Roves. We just have to agree to do it. And the DO IT!

We can do this. We can get the signatures to put her on the ballot of every state as the candidate of the Palin Party. We just have to do it and stop whining about being stuck with the false dichotomy of loser(R) or loser (D).

“Freepers (and those out there who think like Freepers) are not a decisive majority in the Republican electorate. Not even close.

Polls seem to have disappeared from FR but they were still around in 2008. Most polls showed support for Tancredo, Duncan and Thompson. The primarys were dominated by McCain, Huckabee and Romney.”

So, the only conclusion possible is that an electorate to which the universal franchise has been extended, is infinitely pliable, by application of the ruses of the demogogue.

Romney has been winning largely because his well-funded slime machine has been outspending the opposition several times over. This advantage will evaporate when he faces the Obama/Soros ticket in November.

Here on FR, people got banned not because they are supporting Romney in the general election, but because they were supporting him in the primary. I asked one of them if she was supporting Romney because he is the most conservative electable candidate, or because he is LDS. I never received a reply.

I expect a spirited debate here on FR over whether to support Romney in the general election. My view is no. However, I had said the same thing about McCain, but ended up voting for him after he picked Palin.

How’s that being held captive by Zero and his anti-America cabal been working for you (and our country)?

I was an early supporter of Rick Perry and defended him here in FR against the lying losers who tried to make an issue of Guardisil and who tried to lie, lie, lie about what Perry would do on the border as PRESIDENT, but then I fell off the wagon, due to Perry’s debate performances, and switched to Newt.

I feel guilty about that. I should have stuck to principles.

Perry was the most principled conservative in the race and we now are getting what we deserve for not seeing that.

Magic Underwear Willard (or a 1% chance of Howdy Doody Rick).

Other than Ronald Reagan I have never voted for a Republican. I've just voted against the commie-pinko, American-hating Democrat that was running. That's what I intend to do this time, also.

The question is, How? Hold my nose, vote for Romney, and wash my hands afterwards? Vote for for the Constitution party or sit home? They amount to the same thing. know. I can't vote Libertarian, too many left-libertarians and kooks. I don't know

Well, if you can't vote for Romney, and believe me I understand the attraction of that position, at least go and vote straight down the ticket for the Rs. It won't really do us any good if Obama is re-elected. Think Supreme Court appointments, but one can always hope.

There's a good chance that Mitt will do so poorly on the campaign trail.

By the time Nov. gets here he will be so low in the polls it won't matter if we vote third party or not.

Personally I think many on the right have gone completely overboard on the hate Romney train. I will vote for Newt if he is still in the race come June, but a lot of people here are just plain off their rockers. I haven't seen anyone bother to mention that Romney had a 85% democrat legislature. 85! Is there anyone on the right who could have maintained their "conservative credentials" and gotten a single bill passed? NO. Heck, Santorum supporters are saying he was a big spending conservative because he was playing on Team Bush, imagine Santorum with 85% democrats!

I don't for a second believe Romney is a hardcore conservative. He is a moderate, but he is a right of center moderate. So many people here literally hate him or hilariously say there is no difference between Romney and Obama. Romney is far from my 1st choice (heck, for that matter, so is Newt!) But I can't imagine in the most frantic fever induced FReeper nightmare would a Romney administration look anything like Eric Holder, Steven Chu, Van Jones, Elena Kagan or Sonya Sotomayor.

Focus on the House and Senate, both local and federal. I wonder how many more Coulters will spring up if romney gets the nod.

I won’t be voting if he’s the nominee.
***I would encourage you to vote. My approach will be to vote a straight ‘R’ up & down the ticket, but at the top spot I’ll be writing in Palin or Santorum.
