The activist actor who campaigned against working conditions at Chinese factories that make iPads and iPhones now admits he fabricated much of his "reporting." Mike Daisey went on NPR's This American Life and theater stages and TV talk shows with emotional tales of shocking hardships. Now Tim Minton says moral outrage is against him.
Not before being bought hook-line-and-sinker right here in River City.
Is it possible that lying revolutionaries are being found out?
Just asking.
It just amazes me that these self-righteous, crusading liberals think that they are justified in creating their lies out of whole cloth because they see themselves as defenders of the poor, workers oppressed by evil American capitalist.
They do not see that these workers are far better off working for the evil American capitalist than they ever were working for the socialist governments of their own country.
What this idiot would spend on a Starbucks venti latte would feed a family of four in China for a few days; maybe longer.
Of course, that was all true, but as I continued to eat my box of dates I reminded him that they could have still be in Mexico ~ and have no income at all, or worse, the groves could start buying cherry pickers and that'd enable one guy to do the work of dozens.
Last time we were out there I noticed cherry pickers at work.
Somebody must have caused trouble!
I’m shocked. SHOCKED that NPR has an anti capitalism bias. Shocked I am.
They are free to leave if they do not like the work or pay. If life was better in Mexico they would stay there.

Isn’t it called looking on the B R I G H T side.
That’s a huge A M E N Pontiac.
Just like a certain minority group right here in the US of A that just can’t see liberty and prosperity for the indignities their ancestors were caused to bear.
I didn't. Working in a business that was just then really beginning to squeeze every bit of productivity out of everything I knew what was next ~ cherry pickers ~and they happened.
I am guessing they are still using illegals in the cherry pickers.
They used to get away with it all the time but with the advent of the Web, they are getting fact checked very quickly. Daisey was an IDIOT to even think he could get away with his FRAUD.
“It’s Not Journalism, It’s Theater.”
Wow, so many could use this as their slogan. MSNBC for starters.
You can read all about Mike Daisey’s downfall on the latest iPad3.
NBC used THEATER, not journalism when faking the gas tank explosions of the GM trucks.
They do not see that these workers are far better off working for the evil American capitalist than they ever were working for the socialist governments of their own country.
That whole issue bugs me because there is a huge industry built around that.
Race baiting is big money for those who are willing to incite hatred for a profit.
Obamas Rev. Wright made big money a racist, hate spewing preacher. Rev. Jesse L. Jackson Sr. has extorted millions from industry using the threat of incitement to hatred against them. Numerous other so called minnorrity leaders have jumped on the racial hatred bandwaggon to make their millions.
You are correct that many people in the minority communities look on the dark side of life and see oppression instead of looking on the bright side and seeing how good they have it here. But who can blame them when so many people that look like them and speak their language are screaming Look over hear at all of these terrible things.
It is hard to see the good when everyone you know is shining there light on the bad.
It is a shame that there is so much money to be made selling hate.
WOW. I heard that segment on This American Life and was really disturbed by it. What a complete idiot for doing this. I suspect the people at TAL are the most horrified of all and I am sure they will apologize profusely in the next show.
Even though it airs on NPR, it is a very good show and well worth downloading the podcast (same goes for RadioLab, btw.)
I would like to know which parts were made up and which were true.
