Guns&Ammo Review: Arsenal Firearms Introduces Double Barrel Pistol (.45cal)
Guns & Ammo ^ | 3/12/12 | Iain Harrison

It may come as a surprise to some (and boy, do I feel like a cantankerous old geezer for saying this,) but firearms are a mature technology. We all have to be aware that just because you can do something, doesn’t mean you should”

Following the invention of the double column magazine by Deudonne Saive, there really haven’t been a whole lot of original ideas coming out of the handgun industry for the last 75 years. Yes, I know, underqualified hacks like me will tell you all about the latest whizbang doodad from SHOT show, but in comparison to say, the medical field, it’s really just the refinement of existing technologies and the application of new materials from other industries, combined in many instances with hyperbolic marketing.

Which brings me to the AF2011-A1 double barrel pistol from Arsenal Firearms. If you listen carefully to the video, you can almost hear the dialog in the meeting that lead to it’s creation. ”Hey Franz, we’ve got a couple of spare 1911′s and a MIG welder. Any clue what we can do with them?” Either that, or they hired a recently-graduated business consultant who mistook the South Park underpants gnomes episode as an instruction manual.

According to Aresenal’s site, the AF2011-A1 is the “very first industrial double barrel semiautomatic pistol of all times.” But wait there’s more. They’re claiming that they are making this “true industrial market-ready double barrel .45 caliber pistol” to commemorate the Colt 1911-A1 in the Centenary.

It is offered either with two independent triggers and one sear group or with two triggers permanently joined and the choice of one or two sear groups. You can pick up one of these wunderkinds in mirror finish Deep Blue or with a 3400 Vickers surface hardness White Ash Nitrite coating.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have a brilliant idea that involves a couple of Glock 17s and a tube of JB Weld…

I would love a blunderbuss version that shoots 15 at a time :)

English colonial types used to carry Howdahs whilst riding elephants, as protection against tiggers.

It is really like the technology for photographers that can’t look at their camera after a shot — equivalent to shot exposure bracketing on a digital SLR.

I am still waiting for the 6-barrel revolving gatlin pistol.

It could be that your wrist is not strong enough for a .45 to chamber the following round.

This is not unusual.

Different spring may help, but there's no substitute for a quality firearm.

I NOW A GUY who has a Colt Commander with over 3,000 rounds...not a single failure to feed or fire.

I’ll probably get flamed for this, but Dieudonne Saive was not the inventor of the double column pistol magazine. It was introduced by the 1907 Savage pistol.

‘What does that bad boy weigh fully loaded ?’

Think of it as ballast that reduces recoil.

LOL!!! Coming Soon to an Action Movie near you. One in each hand as the hero blasts away with his 200 rounds of .45 each bullet lifting the bad guy off the ground.

It’s like something you would expect to see if you left teen-aged boys alone in a machine shop with two 1911’s and no supervision.

Makes me wonder if this firearm is NFA-restricted because of the ‘More than one round per function of the trigger’ ATF ruling that describes machine guns.

It looks like the slides, slide together. How does that work with the one that has two triggers and you only fire from the left side? How do you rack only one slide? It does look cool but I like the Sig .45; it does the job like almost all .45s do.

I have small hands so this isn't going to work for me. Whoever mentioned that it will show up in a movie is right.

Yoyo in post 17 says that both slides are welded together. So what good are separate triggers? If you only use one gun, it will rack out the unused ammo in the gun that wasn't fired????

Sudetenland in post 20 is the one who mentioned, coming to an action movie near you.

It would definitely make a great movie prop.

Would rather have 2 separate ones. Then you can aim in 2 different directions.

"Sometimes the truth hurts. I've never owned a 1911 I really trusted."

Oh give me a break: you get what you pay for. If you buy an original government 1911A1 - Remington Rand or Ithaca - or a real Colt, using good-quality ball ammo and keeo the thing clean and lubricated, they will never let you down. I carried one in combat in crappy conditions and it always worked flawlessly.

Buy the cheapy knockoffs and/or use Brand X ammo, you run into problems.

P.S - Everyone I ever saw shot with the .45 died. Not the same record with other calibers.

Never design a weapon at the company Christmas party, the sober guy there will build it then drop it on your desk and say, “Here it is”.
