Worried relatives of the missing Medsker family of Michigan, who disappeared without a trace in February, were contacted today by the family and assured that they are safe, police in Petoskey announced today.

But today, after widespread media attention about the case, Timothy Medsker contacted a family member in Petoskey, Mich., to assure relatives and the public that the Medskers were safe.

I agree. It still smells fishy.
I keep reading this....”
They believed the family — which ran a successful commercial cleaning business — left the area by choice, but left behind sizable amounts of food, toiletries and other everyday items.”
And also every article says there were very private people.
I wonder if these people were Preppers. I’m not saying preppers are kooks, but they have to have a stronger sense of paranoia than most of us.
What’s a Prepper?
I wouldn’t expect preppers to run away from Petoskey. It ain’t exactly Detroit up there.
I hope the family has had contact with the wife & not just him.
The family seems to be tight-lipped about this too.
It’s just weird
Maybe the Witness Protection Program?
Thanks!
Well, that's one more idea to add to the list.
So far, we have:
a) Their mortgage is underwater and they walked away from the house.
b) Since they "ran a successful commercial cleaning business", maybe they saw, read, found out about something they shouldn't have and have been squirreled away in witness protection, by the FBI.
c) they are just plain kooks and have basically said, "I've had enough of this rat race" and just decided to "start over".
d) and now we have Preppers.
I'm pulling for witness protection myself.
But then again, I've been told I'm a little off kilter.
“Their mortgage is underwater and they walked away from the house.”
That doesn’t make sense....they left food & clothing behind.
I suppose “witness protection” is a possibility.
Maybe they joined a cult that told them to leave everything behind?
“Maybe the Witness Protection Program?”
Possible. But I have to wonder about the husband....they’ve been referred to as being “very private”. Sometimes that goes hand-in-hand with a very controlling husband.
Or they may have joined a religious group or cult that told them to leave everything behind.
Thanks for the ping. Yeah, that is a little incomplete, but it could be just a poorly put-together report. When they say “family member” it makes you wonder, did the guy call some third cousin twice removed, or did he call his mom?
Who knows, we once went out to my m-i-l’s bungalow, which had no phone, we were going to stay for the weekend but ended up there for a week. We thoughtlessly worried a lot of people.
The case seems very odd to me and I agree that there is more to this story. I hope law enforcement speaks to the wife and verifies that any children are okay. I am all for the “freedom” and liberty of “dropping” out if one wants that... however, I am suspicious of the safety of the wife/children.
I was thinking Raptured or Gone Galt.
Really?? You don’t know??
My guess is that they received a death threat and took it serious enough that they didn’t trust the police enough to protect them.....Which then begs the question did they contact the police who are remaining mum on the issue.
OK, my favorite guess is that they in Witness Protection.
Whoops. Not anymore.
Folks don’t typically call their other family members and have the story publicized on the internet if the are in the WPP. OK, I confess everything I know about witness protection I learned from Mary McCormack on In Plain Sight.
