In before the posts blaming Newt. This is shaping up to be another 2008 where the worst possible candidate, a centrist/moderate who literally stands for nothing, is squeaking out a victory. In this case, Romney isn't even bothering to run to the right. He's pretty much unapologetic about his centrist/moderate politics of the past. I refuse to blame either Newt or Santorum voters. The people to blame here are the GOP leaders and media cheerleaders who are doing everything they can to get Romney the nomination. I ask them. What in the world does your stinking excuse for a candidate stand for???? Electability? Is that it? It agonizes me to post this, but I made a touch decision after Florida. There is no way I'm going to vote for Romney, ever. If this country is going to go down the tubes, better let the chips fall where may now. I'd rather the GOP was torn asunder than vote for such a guy who holds virtually none of the political ideals I hold dear. I'm NOT going to vote for Obama lite, so GOPe...go choke on your candidate!

Uh... no. Santorum failed in OH because of campaign incompetence. He lost many delegates because he didn't have his paperwork in order. That wouldn't have changed if he had "won" Ohio.
He's got the same problem with Illinois and didn't make the ballot in DC.
As a result of Santorum's ineptness, Newt will actually come out 10 delegates ahead of him netted from Super Tuesday according to FoxNews.

It will make them listen to the Tea party and social conservatives. That’s why we keep fighting. And there is still the chance that Romney craters, given his propensity to put his foot in his mouth. And, Romney is running low on funds. There is opportunity in the South to make some significant gains for Santorum and Gingrich. We continue until convention irregardless of how Romney does, and the delegates vote as appointed.

Absent Gingrich, Santorum would beat Romney one-on-one. Absent Santorum, Gingrich would beat Romney one-on-one. Together, they’re giving him the nomination.

Uh... no. Santorum failed in OH because of campaign incompetence. A 1% loss despite being outspent 2:1 seems pretty competent to me.

To: TBP
We will have to take this to convention and try to draft Paul Ryan if nothing else.

Well, GeronL, you do absolutely nothing to help bring the two conservative candidates, Santorum and Gingrich, together by ridiculing the Newt supporters. I respect both Newt and Santorum voters and won't demean either of them. We are on the same side in this battle against the true moderates and uninformed conservative Repubs who vote Romney simply because they think he's the most electable.

He was outspent 12:1 when considering SuperPac and campaign funds. On campaign funds alone, Santorum was outspent 5:1.

There is opportunity in the South to make some significant gains for Santorum and Gingrich. There are more significant gains in the West and NE.
CA is winner-take all. NY and TX (the most significant state for conservatives ahead) are both proportional.

I’d vote for a can of beans vs Obama.

What really surprises me is that Rick was successful in tamping down the massive Newt surge that everyone was telling me that would happen. I am breathing a sigh of relief as we speak.

Have you not been paying attention? All the Newt supporters on FR do all day long is attack Santorum. They come across as pitbulls working for Romney sometimes.
Some of them are probably looking to a White House wedding for Newt

TX might not even have a primary. It might end up being decided by the party elite

The outcome tonight isn’t that bad. The primary schedule has largely favored Romney thus far. Just take a look at the states that have voted, MA, NH, AZ, ID, NV, FL, VT are all states Romney should have won. The southern states will not be kind to Romney. I expect this to go to a brokered convention.
