Was Rush Wrong About What He Said, Or How He Said It?

Posted on 03/05/2012 7:18:01 AM PST by Why So Serious

I will start with, I did not hear either the student's testimony, or Rush's response. Nor do I care to listen to either. I know the two sides of the argument. Girl wants to have sex and thinks someone else should pay for her birth control. Rush thinks covering any part of the cost of the sex is what he said it is.

This is so stupid. I believe that golf is very therapeutic. Lord knows how relaxed I am when I am on the golf course [even when I am playing bad]. That said, tell me why my company's healthcare provider should not cover the cost of my tee time. Oh, and I love to have a glass of red wine when I get home in the evening. You know, it helps me unwind in the same therapeutic way. So I would also like to be able to purchase my wine using my prescription card. Need I tell you what tooling around on my pontoon boat does for me, in a therapeutic way?

I am sure that we can all make a short list of things we spend money on that more closely falls under the umbrella of health care than birth control pills.

I am in no way against a woman wanting to take birth control. In fact my wife did take it before we were married and for a while after we were married. Guess who paid for it? The person who should have.

—Nobody oversees his show and pre-approves anything. —

I’m not talking about pre-approval. I’m talking about brainstorming. In my family, I make the important financial decisions, but my wife definitely has input, and often changes my mind. She does not oversee, but her input is valuable.

Rush would be an idiot if he did not at least consider the input of others. And he is no idiot.

—This woman clearly deserved to be attacked for her testimony on two grounds. First, she misrepresented the cost of birth control. Target has pointed out it has a store very near the campus where birth control pills only cost $9/month. She claimed they cost nearly $100. She could/should have been attacked as deliberately misrepresenting the cost of birth control to Congress and the public for political gain.—

And now that this has been blown up, he CAN bring those things up. Think anybody will be curious as to what he has to say today? Think he may even have more listeners than usual?

;-)

Well I just tried to say this in a vanity post, but it seems to have been ionized.

I think Rush should team up with Glenn Beck, and throw the weight of his technical and financial wherewithall behind GBTV. Perhaps even a controlling interest.

End run around the left. Speak directly to people.

Imagine Rush’s 20 million listeners and his resources, teaming up with Glenn’s new network.

The MSM would become a sideline.

This is what I don't understand about the whole thing?

Rush made what amounted to an offhand comment about Fluke near the end of his show on Wednesday, To Paraphrase "Ms. Fluke wants you to pay for her to have sex. So what to you call someone like wants to be paid to have sex? A slut? A prostitute?

That was it. At this point he had left himself enough wiggle room so if the SHTF, he would have an out by saying he didn't call Ms. Fluke a slut and a prostitute. He said that someone who wants to be paid for sex is a slut or a prostitute.

Well predictably the left tries to make a big deal over it. So what does Rush do? He gets back on the air Thursday and doubles down on everything he said the day before, leaving no doubt this time he thinks she is a slut and prostitute. Plus he takes if farther by adding comments about her spending so much time on her back, and being so sore she could barely walk to get to the hearing.

Which brings us to the big question? Why instead of trying to get out when he first slipped into the stew-pot, did Rush decide to swim a few laps instead? He's been through things like this before, he knew what was going to happen? Then strangest of all, after going all in and doubling down on what he said Wednesday on both Thursday and Friday. Rush folds like hotel sheet on Saturday afternoon.

Anyone who leeches off the taxpayers esecially for something as ridiculous as birth control is a slut.

Leftists spent much of last year organizing “Slut Walks” for “reproductive rights,” and now they claim the right to be offended by the term. Can’t have it both ways.

Rush spent hours hitting the exact points you mentioned. He also used a very logical and substantive route to label what she is doing as the same as a prostitute or slut. The later was perfectly acceptable, but those lines took on a life of their own. He probably took it too far, or at the very least should have handled it differently knowing there was a risk of having it used for propaganda purposes.

Exactly. The problem Rush has is that sometimes, the tension between being a serious commentator and an entertainer leads to this kind of thing. It was a stupid thing to say.

My take is Rush presented the slut and prostitute as an analogy. Ever notice how people take his words and twist them continuously?

______________________________________

I heard him and I cringed. He wasn't making any analogy.

What he said was ugly and it was over the line. OK, that happens.

But what he said was also profoundly stupid for the simple reason that he had the argument won. He had presented a linear, logical case that could not be honestly contested. Then he made it personal...and in doing so handed the enemy the victory.

Once he made it personal (and ugly) he turned the spotlight off the idiot girl and on to himself, and by extension, all conservatives. Any fool knows that the media left would run with that --- and they did.

Rush's actions were stupid, stupid, stupid.

As I understand it, lots of insurance companies cover the cost of Viagra. Given that, I don’t think it is so odd—or in any way an indicator of “sluttiness”—for women to want prescription birth control to be covered as well.

I think it's odd... dare I say "perverted...," that recreational Viagra is covered. Given that, it's a odd... dare I say "perverted...," that a woman wants her recreational contraceptives covered.

Lets get to the facts that many have missed! Everything Rush said last Thursday and Friday concerning this woman is true.

The Media loved not printing or repeating Rush's full statement!

Now the truth about Sandra Fluke! She sounds like a slut to me!

http://www.floridapoliticalpress.com/2012/03/03/sandra-fluke-a-white-house-plant-in-contraceptive-controversy/

She goes “shopping” at the age of 30 (not 23) for a Catholic College that does not have coverage for birth control pills.

She chooses Georgetown at the cost of $65,000 per year, but she can not afford ALL the birth control pills she needs!

She just “happens” to show up in Congress to testify about how she must have the U.S. taxpayers pay for her birth control pills.

The Socialists in Congress call her brave, wonderful, and Obama tells her her parents should be so very proud of her!

Obama’s message to parents? When looking for a college for your daughter, make sure they cover the cost of ALL the birth control pills she will need!

"Girl wants to have sex and thinks someone else should pay for her birth control..."

You are off a bit here, 30 year-old woman (no girl) says she is and will continue to have sex and demands that I pay for her birth control but also her abortion pill, should she "forget to take the birth control pill."

I'm not demanding that she pay for my choice, why should I be forced to pay for hers?

This is not only unconstitutional but immoral in a real world but in one envisioned by Orwell, it not only is reasonable but now mandatory, according to the left and more and more of the "sheeple!"

Rush chose the slut route. Stupid.

Really? It caught your attention, didn't it. Otherwise your beautiful constructed remarks would have never happened. Rush did it correct and this nitwit is a slut.

If in either case the insurance company determines that it wants to include the offering in its coverage, that’s fine with me—I just want the friggin’ government out of the decision on all those coverage issues!

Your vanity is based on a false premise. Rush was wrong neither in what he said nor in how he said it. He was wrong in apologizing for it.

Fluke will now forever be known as the ‘woman who faced down Rush Limbaugh’.

Never before has anything he done been successfully used against sponsors or political gains.

From what I heard, I think you are exactly correct. The Democrats had the strategy of making Obamacare about contraception in order to get it passed and overcome Republicans. They have been successful in every step of their socialist take over of the healthcare industry.

ED is a disease and Viagra, Cialis, etc., are solutions, not sexual stimulants.
In fact, Cialis was just given FDA approval as a treatment for another male only disease, BPH.

The left was already distorting this issue to make it about “access to contraception” rather than what it is about: government coercion and religious freedom. What Rush did is allow the Left to add in another layer of confusion to cloud the issue even further. Dumb move by Rush.
