Typical trype from blogs proclaiming Microsoft to be finished and people claiming that they will never ever use this OS.
Every version gets this predictable response from cocky Apple and Linux people.
I wouldn’t count them out. Everybody thought the gaming market was saturated as well, but they are the big boy there.
I saw a chart that compared Microsoft’s growth with Android’s and, for the same time period, Microsoft is growing faster. So it will be interesting to see what happens.
If Microsoft is willing to give a better experience than Apple or Android, and are willing to stay in, at all costs, even taking it on the chin during their growing phase, they will probably be fine I suspect.
But this is one fight they cannot afford to lose. They will essentially be out of the consumer market if they cannot succeed here. That’s their situation.

I was very late to every OS except vista, which I was an early adopter. I don’t expect I’ll be early to any OS ever again. Well, maybe to windows 9 I will. It depends how long it takes for them to come out with windows 9. I’d like to skip over vista, seven, and eight. I fear XP is going to be a relic in about 2 years. But maybe not, ya never know.
ME was the worst OS Microsoft ever put out. NT was probably their best. XP was excellent after SP3. Win 7 seems to be very good from the start. That’s probably because it is Vista after two years of beta testing. I was partial to DOS 3.3 and CP/M for their simplicity and compactness as well.
I thought win 2000 was for servers, not desktops. I dont’ remember because I never had either one of them. I went from 98 to xp.
What about my favorite Win2K?
2000 was NT. Microsoft was still selling the regular and heavy-duty versions. ME was so bad that they used NT as the basis for XP and discontinued the weaker version.
Now they are trying to separate the systems again with Pro, home and media editions, but the basic kernel is the same.

I’m still getting updates every Tuesday. I’ll update when those computers die. I think I still have two unused licenses for XP Pro SP3.
All of my new machines are dual booting Win7 64 bit and Ubuntu Linux.

Can’t say for sure, but I would guess both. There’s zero problems with drivers of any kind no matter what new stuff I’m attempting to use.
Still waiting to see the mythical open-source Exchange killer.
