Obama's Favorite Algae Company
Forbes ^ | February 26, 2012 | by Jeff McMahon

President Obama’s reference to algae in his Thursday energy speech drew flak over the weekend from Newt Gingrich, who called it “weird” before calling algal biofuel “a terrific concept.” But Obama had political reasons to promote algae in Florida, the sunny, swampy, politically-volatile state he carried in 2008.

The Obama Administration has already sunk $25 million into a Florida company—Alganol Biofuels—that is building an algae biorefinery using a patented technology that promises to streamline the process of extracting oils from algae so they be converted to ethanol.

“We’re making new investments in the development of gasoline and diesel and jet fuel that’s actually made from a plant-like substance — algae,” Obama said in Miami. ” You’ve got a bunch of algae out here, right? If we can figure out how to make energy out of that, we’ll be doing all right.”

Obama’s remarks rest on a 2011 study by the Energy Department’s Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, which found that 17 percent of U.S. oil imports could be displaced by domestic biofuels from algae.

The authors consider 17 percent a viable number based on optimal land and water and geographic placement of algae farms.

They did not propose a timeline for development of an algal energy industry, but they identified a potential Achilles’ Heel of algal biofuels: up to 350 gallons of fresh water would be needed to produce one gallon of oil from algae.

Hey, Bill, I had a look your home page.

Here’s the deal.

I believe in free enterprise, capitalism and self-determination.

You don’t.

I suspect that you are a government employee, which isn’t a failing in and of itself, but your poisonous contempt for the private sector allows no room for discussion with you, or even respect for you.

You have your priorities, you have a man in the White House of similar mind, and you have some forty percent of the American electorate who adore him as much as you do.

Go share your fantasies with them.

No, you’re the one making that straw assertion.

I’m saying any country that develops a sustainable renewable energy source is going to have a strategic advantage over those who don’t. Simple.

I like nuclear power, as long as Homer Simpson isn’t running the plant.

As for the Pipeline and drilling - I think we should drill and pipe and then keep the tap shut on American resources until the Saudi’s are sucking sand and we can see the whites of the eyes of their Euro-trash Royal puppeteers bulging out of their inbred heads.

Was the Apollo program a private enterprise - Yes or No?

>>I suspect that you are a government employee,

Nope.

Got any more straw?

>>your poisonous contempt for the private sector

I have no contempt for the private sector. But I do have contempt for little straw men all puffed up with fresh water when the article clearly states this company claims to have technology that can use SEAwater.

Have you hated American government long, Comrade?

What is the purpose of American governance articulated in the Declaration of Independence?

I stated common sense. How could you honestly say that’s a ‘straw assertion’?

Yes, there’s arguably an advantage to preserving our resources given the hypothetical peak-oil scenario, but is that theory anywhere near reality?

You strike me as Moderate on energy given your reservations about nuclear, and by bolstering your point with ‘sustainable renewables’. Why not invest more $ in superconductor technology?

It’s my understanding we have a few hundred years of identifiable fossil resources available in North America.

I don’t shun alternate forms of energy, but I’m suspicious of the govt involvement that wreaks of cronyism at the expense of the taxpayer.

[You strike me as Moderate on energy given your reservations about nuclear]

I don’t have reservations about nuclear. I just don’t want Homer Simpson running a nuclear facility in my neighborhood.

Do you want Homer Simpson running a nuclear facility in your neighborhood?

Driven your Cesium 137 Tractor lately Comrade?

[It’s my understanding we have a few hundred years of identifiable fossil resources available in North America.]

And it’s my opinion we should keep it that way until the Saudi’s and their Eurotrash Royal Puppeteers are sucking sand, or dirt.

Tea anyone?

LOL!

Easy there, Billy! You are going to blast off like a rocket yourself!

Don’t feel bad, Bill. Lots of people worship Obama. Some, like you, even think his policies are working. Maybe algae will cool the earth AND lower the seas, right, Billyboy?

You know what your trouble is, Billy, it’s that people just don’t seem to take to you. In fact, they laugh at you, like I am now.

You may not know the reason for it, or even notice sometimes, or maybe you just get spittin’ mad, but they laugh at you, and then they just pass you by.

No respect, little Billy. There’s no respect for losers like you.

(And no straw for jackasses like you either—lol!)

These clowns will stop at nothing, even the laws of physics and economics...

The corrupt Chicago bastards regularly ignore laws that would send most of us to the slammer.

I just wish they would start ignoring the law of gravity and take a walk off the top of the Sears Tower.

And maybe you’ll take your medication thus enabling you to overcome your paranoid delusion, improve your reading comprehension skills, and admit that the article talks about using SEAwater — not the fresh water you’ve been hysterically quacking about.

And speaking of SEAwater, was the recovery of the Apollo capsules that splashed down in it a privately funded enterprise - Yes or No?

By the way, Billy, I might suggest that while it may be natural for fellow-traveler like you to sling around the appellation “Comrade” (you have, after all, chosen your nickname from a work written by an acknowledged Communist) some of us who believe in the foundations and principles of this country don’t cotton to it.

I don’t like being associated with you in that regard, or with you using that term around me in what seems to be second nature to you.

Why are you an apostle of Arthur Miller, Billy?

Can you explain that?

Was Arthur Miller an out-and-out member of the Communist Party, or did he merely attend party meetings and sign petitions and affidavits?

Billy? What is your allegiance to Arthur Miller and his causes? Why do you identify with him?

Billy, is your relationship to the Communist Party a public or a private matter?

Do you care to come clean here, Billy, or is the matter one of confidence between you and your minders?

>>Some, like you, even think his policies are working.

It’s self-evident that none of his policies are working - except maybe the one that’s designed to induce psychosis in folks like you.

The other 85% is a slow process which we call either ideological subversion, active measures, or psychological warfare. Lastly, Bill, I’m going to give you a little food for thought.

It’s probably beyond you but it is my one and final try.

If you want to ask me whether the Apollo missions, or the interstate highway system, or other such undertakings (those two at least were arguably beneficial) were public or private PROJECTS, then yes, I will certainly agree they were publicly (or governmentally) directed, overseen, administered, whatever.

But, you poor sad fool, if you ask if the funding behind them was public or private, OF COURSE I will tell you it was private.

Bill, where do you and your kind think the government’s money comes from? Do you really think (like Obama) that the government somehow generates a profit? A profit that it then invests?

Or do you think (as Obama also does, and the CP too) that all wealth is actually the government’s by definition and the wee bit that people like me manage to hang onto would actually be better held and spent by self-appointed wise men like you?

Good lord, man, I don’t know how you lost what little money you had, or whatever else on earth happened to you to embitter you so, but the fact is that the government doesn’t fund or finance or spend a damned dime of its own.

Try sleep on that one, old boy. Maybe the reality of it will...dawn on you.

[to sling around the appellation “Comrade”]

Slinging? No Comrade, I’m firing for effect. Your hatred of America and it’s specified purpose of governance - TO SECURE THESE RIGHTS - is quite clear.

From whom or what did the American founders believe these rights needed to be secured, Mr. Merchant?

Was Ameriquest a Private or Public corporatist/collectivist/communal “enterprise”, Comrade?

How’s that A$$paper digesting?

Au contraire, muy little mental militia midget:

Matt 22:19-21
19 Show me the coin used for paying the tax.” They brought him a denarius, 20 and he asked them, “Whose portrait is this? And whose inscription?”

21 “Caesar’s,” they replied.

Then he said to them, “Give to Caesar what is Caesar’s, and to God what is God’s.”

I have no interest at all in spending, or doing anything else with, your “wee bit” - though I will share the observation that it is clearly bigger than what's supposed to be between your ears.

[yes, I will certainly agree they were publicly (or governmentally) directed, overseen, administered, whatever.]

And why was it necessary for those projects to be publicly administered - and funded? Why couldn’t private enterprise do that?

Water water everywhere and not a drop in your brain, ehh Whitey?
