A Denver news anchor is speaking out for the first time after being severely injured when a dog bit her on the face during a TV interview. Earlier this month, Kyle Dyer was interviewing the owner of an 85-pound Argentine Mastiff who was rescued from icy waters. While petting the dogs face, Dyer leaned in to kiss his nose when the dog lurched forward and bit her face.
Dyer was taken to Denver Health Medical Center where, after four hours of surgery, she received 70 stitches to her lips and nose. She later posted on Facebook that her mouth was stitched shut in order for the skin graft to take.
She is out of the hospital and recently sat down for an interview to discuss the accident and resulting surgery. Dyer is happy that the dog is back with his owners and is pleased to be recovering and moving forward with life.

Glad she’s okay. Probably will never have feeling in her lip though. My dad had to have his lip stitched back together after driving his ‘55 Chevy off of a bridge (fell asleep at the wheel) back in the late 50s ... never did get any feeling back in it.
Bet she won’t be kissing any more dogs - at least four legged ones!
This woman, like so many who have limited experience with animals, thinks of animals as little people. Unfortunately for her, they aren’t. What she did was perceived by the dog as an attempted dominance display, and the dog wasn’t about to become a beta male (or female)to someone outside his or her pack (where, presumably, the owner is the alpha). People who know dogs understand that what she did was very dangerous. When you consider that the dog was a Dogo Argentino, she is very lucky that the injury wasn’t far worse.
Maybe she shoulda’ sung that Grizzley Song to the dog first/ sarc. The one the guy from Malibu sang to the grizzley before it ATE him.
Animals are NOT humans.

What a great attitude. I wish her the best.
She obviously knew little or nothing about dogs. I am glad it was not worse, if the dog had latched on to her face and shook her, he could have snapped her neck.
If the saying, ‘you are what you eat’, is true, then that old grizzly is at least partially human:)
Either way I am glad she was not injured more seriously, lesson learned the hard way.
That dog looks more Pit than Mastiff to me—not that it makes any difference.
If a dog does’t really know you and you get in it’s face, this is a normal reaction for most dogs.
They are very tough dogs with tremendous prey-drive. The Argentines use the Dogo to hunt boars and other large game.
It’s a Dogo Argentino. Pit Bulls were one of the breeds used in the breed’s development. They look like huge, white pit bulls. Bred to hunt big cats, originally.
How interesting—thanks for the information.

You’re more than welcome. If I recall correctly, the breed was developed by a medical doctor, who was an avisd hunter.

All very good points, but I would add that you also shouldn’t go up to “little people” strangers and kiss them on the first meeting, either. Oh well, I suppose she learned a lesson that day that she will remember.
