That dog looks more Pit than Mastiff to me—not that it makes any difference.
If a dog does’t really know you and you get in it’s face, this is a normal reaction for most dogs.

It’s a Dogo Argentino. Pit Bulls were one of the breeds used in the breed’s development. They look like huge, white pit bulls. Bred to hunt big cats, originally.

The dog is NOT a mastiff nor is there any EEEEEEEEEEEEVIL pitbull there: It's a Dogo Argentino, a large GUARD dog originally from the Canary Islands.
Then again, the knee-jerk reaction seems to be that if a dog LOOKS like it MIGHT be slightly aggressive or threatening to the weak, IT'S A PITBULL!!! RUN FOR YOUR LIVES
