The dog is NOT a mastiff nor is there any EEEEEEEEEEEEVIL pitbull there: It's a Dogo Argentino, a large GUARD dog originally from the Canary Islands.
Then again, the knee-jerk reaction seems to be that if a dog LOOKS like it MIGHT be slightly aggressive or threatening to the weak, IT'S A PITBULL!!! RUN FOR YOUR LIVES

The Dogo and the Presa Canario are two different dog breeds. the former was bred to hunt and guard, the latter was bred as a fighting dog.
Dogos were developed by an Argentine doctor. The Presa Canario was “re-bred” largely through the efforts of a veterinarian named Carl Semenak [p/s], if I recall correctly.

I am not afraid of Pit Bulls, I once owned one, who I named Bruno don Carlioni. He was a family pet for our family, which included 5 children.
Just so you know..............
