Santorum Endorsed Specter’s Presidential Bid (1996)

And as for the pro-abortion-rights presidential candidate Santorum endorsed, when Specter launched a long-shot bid for president in 1995, Santorum — his fellow Pennsylvanian — was one of his few high-profile endorsements.

For Specter, who later became a Democrat, his pro-abortion-rights position was a centerpiece of his campaign. Specter believed that anti-abortion activists were a “fringe” group hijacking the Republican party.

“There are clearly more Republicans who are pro-choice,” Specter told Newsday’s Susan Page. “Up until now, I am the only person willing to take on the fringe.” After Specter dropped out of the race, he led an ill-fated movement to change the anti-abortion provision in the Republican party platform.

Santorum was effectively returning a favor by endorsing Specter despite his aggressive pro-abortion-rights views. Specter had supported Santorum’s 1994 Senate campaign.

Does he want a pro-abortion President?

He did in '08 and more - he even campaigned for a pro homo marriage, big gov't healthcare candidate who is known for his lies.

Just another one of those where Rick's taking it for the team.

Now this big family guy did NOT give a rat's behind to set the example to the American public what was and was NOT acceptable in an American president.

But his supporters here are lauding him for president because he keeps his zipper up. Yet, he himself protects one who didn't right in the Oval Office. Yep, his supporters don't even know him and really don't care about his record. It's his 'appearance' that makes him qualified to be president. How is that for being copy cats from the liberals in '08.

Priority #1 remains nominating someone who isn’t Romney.

I don't do the 1,2,3 or someone thing - I do the right thing from the start. Vote for the most qualified - NEWT. If others want to hand our country to the enemy, that stain will be on their hands, not mine.

http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2012-01-05/santorum-becomes-millionaire-in-six-years-after-losing-u-s-senate-seat.html

The $395,414 Santorum brought in from his relationship with Universal Health is his biggest post-Congress monetary gain, other than his employment contracts, according to the Center for Responsive Politics in Washington.
Fellow board member Tony Pantaleoni, a lawyer, said Santorum had a prior relationship with Alan Miller, Universal Health’s chief executive, and that he “came with a lot of knowledge about the health industry,” including regulatory issues in Washington.

***********

http://www.nytimes.com/2012/01/06/us/politics/after-senate-santorums-beneficiaries-became-benefactors.html?_r=1

In the years before he lost his Pennsylvania Senate seat in 2006, Rick Santorum worked hard to win hundreds of millions of dollars in additional Medicare money for hospitals in Puerto Rico.

He sponsored at least two Senate bills and pushed to amend a mammoth Medicare overhaul to include the extra spending, which would have benefited Universal Health Services, a Pennsylvania-based hospital management company with facilities in Puerto Rico. If it seems at odds with the small-government philosophy Mr. Santorum now espouses in his presidential campaign, it was in line with his legislative efforts to help businesses in his state.
And some of those businesses were happy to return the favor.
Within months of leaving the Senate, Mr. Santorum joined the board of Universal Health Services, where he collected $395,000 in director’s fees and stock options before resigning last year. He also became a consultant to Consol Energy, after years of advocating drilling and extraction policies helpful to the company, a Pennsylvania gas and coal producer. And he consulted for the American Continental Group, a lobbying firm whose clients won earmarks he sponsored.

You can’t expect Rick, with no vision, to know endorsing for political favors leaves one with a tarnished halo.

And don’t forget his push to have the weather bureau no longer give information directly to the public when there was a private company willing to SELL it to them.

Uh huh; exactly. And, this is the same reason why my girl Sarah endorsed John McCain in his last Senate reelection campaign. It’s called feeling a sense of obligation to return the favor to people who helped put you where you are today. Sarah did it for John McLame and Rick did it for Specter. Now, can we put all this crap behind us. I despised RS for years for endorsing Specter. I was more “understanding” to Sarah for endorsing McLame.

Its the world of Politics. Thats why people who have morals and principles and stand by them dont last in DC. They are either corrupted or driven out of office. Dont blame me. I didnt create this system. I hate it and I think it stinks. But it is how the game is played.
If there was anyone to blame it is the GOP itself. It doesnt police itself. Someone told me what could the party do and I replied they dont have to support the person. Arlen should have been made to tow the party line. But the party just wanted another “R” instead of someone conservative. All these RINOS should have their feet put to the fire and be told” This is what we believe. If you dont like it,leave and run as a democrat or socialist”. But instead the GOP sticks us with these moral degenerates and wonder why they aint getting as much money as before.

Rick Perry is young Rick was born in 1950; many born that year have already retired. Eisenhower was 62 on his first election and was already seen as grandfatherly.

But rest assured if I ever do get elected, I will support fellow Republicans. No matter how smelly or snake like they are.

So you would compromise just to get along - just like rick.

Leaders don't compromise. Being elected one has a duty to those who elected you - and NOT to the good old boys club. I would never compromise my promise to the will of the people who supported me for political favors or just to get along w/your support me and I'll support you mindset.

THE TEAM should be America, not corrupt politicians with back room deals. The snakes are the power hungry. America was designed that the power belongs to WeThePeople. Who has it now but the media, the wealthy, the deceivers/the corrupt. It cannot work that way. And voters support who they like and not on their record or their eligibility. America is broken because it's being used the opposite of how it was created to work.

I wonder what the problem is with “called by God”? Aren’t we all called by God to whatever profession we are in? Isn’t one duty of a Christian to pray constantly, to ask for God’s direction, and to follow that calling?

I guess it’s the concept of God “choosing”? I mean, we seem to like athletes who give God the glory, but look disfavorably on athletes who claim God favored their team. So if I say I do what I do because God called me to do so, is that better than if I say God choose me to do this? The one sounds like I had no way on my own, it was through God’s power I can do what I do. The second sounds like I was so special that God picked me.

I wouldn’t have a problem with Gingrich saying he thought God had called him to run for President. I hope he does — I’d hate to think Newt prayed, God told him no, and he ran anyway. Rick Perry made similar statements about God’s calling, and I don’t think that is negated by his loss, because we don’t know what God’s ultimate plan is. I think Cain might have also invoked similar words.

Now, maybe Santorum has been more blatant about it, and it comes across as arrogant. I frankly don’t here him enough to really know. I wasn’t a big Santorum fan, I figured he was always an also-ran, and I don’t catch the debates, or listen to a lot of speeches. I like Santorum because I do know he is strong on social conservatism, he has shown signs of being a good conservative, and he’s been able to get a LOT of conservatives to support him. If he now fades away, it will only bother me if nobody else rises up — I’m not hoping for him personally to win, I just want a guy to catch on so that we get an excited GOP electorate to crush Obama in the fall.

(I don’t really feel good about either Santorum or Gingrich on that point, but at this moment, I think Santorum has more upside potential than Gingrich; if I was looking for someone to attack Obama, I might choose Gingrich, but I don’t think Rush Limbaugh or Mark Levin could get elected President, and they are both really good at attacking Obama.)

I do not mean or intend to 'blame' you. I am trying to say that I cannot live one way and pretend that it is in this nation's interests to vote in opposition to how I live. The PROUD GOP e broadly and proudly advertised 'big tent' politics. They invited in anybody and everybody join them and in so doing they have reduced themselves into a PROUD TARP.

IF the PROUD believe they can practice the art of liberalism by only slightly redistributing the wealth of hard working people then they will only fail at a slower rate. It was obscene to listen to grampsPaul, Santorum and Romney freely brag about how they picked life's lottery winners using taxpayers money.

Another article and series of posts from people who cannot understand the incompatibility of party politics and ideology.

Anyone who thinks you can be of pure ideology and an elected member of a political party is an imbecile.

Yes. It sucks...But what would you do....compromise and you get the help getting your agenda passed or not and you get nothing done?
I dont like it, but I didnt invent the system. It s how things are done. Thats the system that gave us the crowd of spine-less jelly fish.
Newt had to compromise some where.Prolly more than most. Reagan did it....
