Good afternoon gardeners. I have been debating all day if I should post this weeks thread. And cant help myself at this point. I do not like stepping on JADBs ownership of the thread and I hope yall and she understands.
As many of you know my wife and I are moving from Meridian, Ms to Marshall, Tx and I was not sure I would be able to keep on gardening at the house we are leasing. Peggy has received a written approval letter from the owner for us to put in a small garden. So I will be trying my best to get one started this spring. I have already started some Marion tomato, Jalapeno, and Pimento seeds that I saved from last seasons garden. I received my Jungs catalog this past week and have been flipping through it.
We will make the final move March 6 8. She is using her vacation days that week for the move. We are moving ourselves, renting a 26 Penske truck. We have used them in the past and they have given us great service and the trucks are top notch. Wow just as fuel prices are rocketing sky high, just our luck! I expect Diesel fuel to be at $4/gal, in our area, by then.
Good luck on all of your gardens!
If you are a gardener or you are just starting out and are in need of advice or just encouragement please feel free to join in and enjoy the friendly discussion. Our Freeper community is full of gardeners, each with varying interests and skill levels from Master Gardener to novice.

We were only there a year or so...I was eight. We spent a week on the ‘Big Island’...rode over on a LST (?) thru rough waters...didn’t think it was possible to puke that much...OMG...it was hell. Excepting the Lake Champlain ferries; I haven’t been on a boat since.

My jalapenos have always produced in abundance! Matter of fact any hot pepper I have grown has done well. It has been a different story for my sweet bells. I have gotten so so production out of them except for last year when I tried some Pimentos they did great. Picked in there green stage and they are just like a green Bell. They ripen to the wonderful red we are all used to seeing in the jars at the supermarket.

A few fresh figs on the left and an egg for size.

Wow! My family took me out of school and I missed few weeks at a time because they had me going to the Big Island and a couple of others on an LST. They thought it was important to see the country. I am a member of the Halema`uma`u poopd pedestrians.

OMG! I remember the Sandalwood Trail, and that certificate! (I think my Dad has them socked away somewhere, but he lives a long way from where I am.) We saw the black sand beach, had teriyaki for the first time at lunch, checked out the Lava Tubes.

I think my Mom and Dad saved everything that was considered an event in their and my life. My father even took pictures of us on the deck of that LST and the bunks we were sleeping in. He was a prolific picture taker.
I have a Mason jar of black sand from the Black Sand Beach that my Mom collected. It is supposed to be bad luck to take the sand. I have read where people have sent their black sand back to Hawaii because of the supposed bad luck. I think in 1959 it was not considered to be bad luck but when the PC Liberal crowd thought that all that sand would be taken away they created a myth.
All my Dad's pictures are packed up in a box right now. After our move and when I have time I will post a few.
My Mom and Dad surprised me with a visit when my squadron was training in the Philippines just before we deployed to Da Nang, Vietnam.

Thanks Red_Devil 232. I picked this up the other day, it's a special extra issue from
Fine Gardening mag, a publication I'd never heard of prior to this.

Jack is in his second semester of Community College, on the Computer Engineering Technology track with thoughts of switching to EE.
After a lack-luster high school performance, he has caught fire, getting two As and two Bs in his first semester.
Thanks for asking.

LOL. Now that’s ironic. The first time I heard about Arkansas Traveler was from your posting on one of the Weekly Gardening Threads. LOL.

Thanks
I looked at the second link earlier this week, but the towns they use are all in Northern Connecticut where it’s much cooler. That’s part of my confusion.

I love that picture.
And the print on your moms’ shirt would still be fashionable today!

I’m so happy for you and for him! I remember you said that he was thinking of studying EE, but I didn’t know he was is college already. That is remarkable, considering his previous disinterest in academic pursuits; but that happens to lots of people — particularly boys.
Does he still live at home?

It would not surprise me if she made the outfit she is wearing. She loved to sew and collected all kinds of fabric on her travels. She collected a lot of Thai raw silk prints. I have an old footlocker in storage that is full of some of her fabrics.

This morning I got up early and freshened up a corner of my garden for four rows of cabbage, brocolli, and onions. Got it all in. Tomorrow I’ll plant spinach and beets. Central piedmont area of NC.

Aquaponic Kale root growth - Week 6

With the heat-exchanger reworked (ok the part that got reworked last week is just an old truck radiator that was rearranged in proximity to a 24V fan for better airflow... But heat-exchanger just sounds much more geeksterishly impressive than "old truck radiator", doesn't it?), the heating water is now up to 80 degrees on a sunny day. That keeps things warmer at night... and the growie things appear to be liking that a whole lot.
Both leaf and root growth on this guy have nearly doubled in two weeks.
