I own a similar water filter, Aqua Rain. Same concept; stainless steel, ceramic filter filled with activated charcoal.

Aqua Rain is made in the USA, in Missouri. Great customer service, less expensive than Berkey, and they make their own filters.

I have my needs covered with a katydyn filter system as well as a do it your self system that will get 99% of the bad stuff out and will just need a simple chemical treatment.

I haven’t had anything but good experiences with Jeff (the Berkey Guy) at www.directive21.com.

There was a problem with one set of filters, and they PROMPTLY sent out a replacement set.

The first correspondence, though, WAS to do the “red dye test”.

I wonder, however, if you’re supposed to do this periodically and how often.

I have called the EPA, the FDA, and the CPSC. They all say they have no authority over water filter manufacturers. I was finally referred to the FTC. I have filed a complaint with them. The FTC also recommended that we all file complaints with our state attorney general.

I would suggest adding the BBB to this list, and possibly an attorney.

Thanks for this post as I love my Berkey and some others I know are about to order their firsts, seeing how much I like mine. Will have to alert them and keep watch to not have these filters creep in.
