I am not sure as to the validity of the opening claim. The Kimber Customs are phenomenal 1911s, and I am fairly certain the Custom IIs have the (generally held) distinction of being "the finest, production 1911-platform pistols available." Maybe I am wrong. Nice piece in any case, although I predict the "two-tone" slider trend in autos won't last long.

I know I’m committing blasphemy when it comes to the firearms world, but I’ve never been a big fan of the 1911 type handguns. I do have a huge amount of respect for what they are though. They just don’t ‘fit’ my hands well. ....And this is coming from someone who’s favorite handgun is the HK USP45 Tactical(NOT a small gun).

IF.....you really want a .45 for concealed carry, look no further than the latest Glock 30. Fantastic handgun.
Virtually no recoil. Not many people are big enough to adequately conceal a 1911; way too damned big. Like a previous poster here, 1911’s are far too large for my hand (I have stubby fingers; what can I say....), but the Glock 30 fits my hand perfectly.

I carry a Kimber Custom or Custom II every day, and my wife has a Kimber Pro Carry II in 9mm.
I won't say it's the "finest" 1911 I've shot, but it's utterly reliable.
Found some pics of the SIG "fastback" - just a factory bobtail... and they show it with a magazine having a huge base pad. So much for the additional concealability of the "fastback".
LOL!

Dunno about the Fastback, but I'm very pleased with my Sig 1911 Scorpion Carry.

Proprietary rounded backstrap my arse. It's just another bobtail 1911. Dan Wesson and others have been making them for decades.

1911 or 1911A1 is NOT a platform...it is a 100+ year old tradition.
let the AR and M-4 people play legos with their weapons...
a 1911 with non stock sights is the only semblance of ‘platform’ it should have...
THIS is an exact duplicate of MY 1911A1
