January 22, 1942:
"Hungarian Fascists drive 550 Jews and 292 Serbs to the Danube River at Novi Sad, Yugoslavia.
They force them onto the ice, shoot the ice to break it up, and then shoot those who do not quickly drown."

"A stately mansion in the Berlin suburb of Wannsee, formerly the residence of a wealthy Jewish family, was expropriated by the Nazis.
Once a site for lakeside summer gatherings, it hosted a meeting of senior government bureaucrats to plan the "Final Solution" to the "Jewish problem" on January 20, 1942.
Chaired by Reinhard Heydrich, the meeting went so well that Heydrich downed a celebratory glass of cognac at its conclusion."

I agree with Congressmen Whittington and Rankin that retirement benefits should not be extended to elected officials.

Been a while, but here's a new quote from General Patton.
- "Dear Ike...After you have gotten the war plans in shape, you had better fix to get [command of] a division in the [Armored] Corps...I further appreciate your advertising of the 2d Armored Division, and I am sincere in believing with you that it is read to fight anywhere, anytime." - George S. Patton to Eisenhower at the War Plans Division
- At 1600 Royal Australian Engineers, after having set off charges on both Vunakanau and Lakunai airdromes, set off a stockpile of bombs at a dump near Rabaul. Unfortunately, they set off all two thousand of them at once creating a shock wave that damaged buildings and more importantly shattered the vacuum tubes in the radio transmitter at the AWA office. (That was a spot of bad luck)
- At 2235, General Horii gave the order to "Stop and weigh anchor. Begin landing operation." The invasion on Rabaul and New Britain had begun.
