UNBELIEVABLE?! Newt Loves FDR, Models Himself After Woodrow Wilson and Admires SEIUs Andy Stern Tuesday, Dec 13, 2011 at 3:52 PM EST
ts not as if Newt couldnt have known his past comments were going to eventually be called into question. Hes capably navigated his way through his big government tendencies so far and miraculously still has solid support in the Tea Party. Will the latest damaging clip have any impact? Gingrich is caught praising his favorite president of the 20th century: FDR. Yup, he picked the mother of all progressives ahead of Ronald Reagan.
Watch the video montage below:
Cue sound of heads exploding across the country NOW!
Seriously?! This is unbelievable.
This goes back to what Newt Gingrich said on this program. You got to get things done. Thats akin to saying we all love the Constitution but there are things we got to do, Glenn warned.
FDR did get things done, and then they were ruled unconstitutional, Stu joked.
But thats not the worst thing on the clip at the top of the page Glenn reads a story where Gingrich praised SEIUs Andy Stern in one of his books.
In his book Real Chance: From the World That Fails to the World That Works, Gingrich praises the SEIU head, who remains a close adviser of the President Obama. Pitching the need for conservatives to respect organized labor, while simultaneously pushing back against some of Labors more cherished legislative goals, he wrote the following:
Conservatives cannot cheer unions overseas and then be blindly anti-union here at home. There are legitimate historic reasons for workers to organize together, and there is a strong need for a healthy, competitive, union, movement that helps improve the lives of its members and the competitiveness of our country.

So instead of saying why you don’t like Gingrich, tell us who you do like and why.
Frankly, that person is Newt. I would prefer, however, to have Blackjack Pershing. Or, Ronald Reagan's heir, Sarah, but she has said, "No."
"The progressive movement profoundly changed America for the better. It is true that by 1932 you had an obsolescent oligarchy that didn't understand modern urban industrialism and that the New Deal improved it against the opposition of the very people whose wealth it was saving, I agree with all of that."
Newt Gingrich Progressive Ideals
NOTE: I absolutely hate the way this video is edited -- and the date it was uploaded suggests a political hit. If anyone has a complete video or transcript of this 2002 debate (with Ralph Nader, it appears) that provides some context for these remarks, I'd like to see it. That being said, Gingrich has an alarming history of praising progressive icons from Andrew Jackson to TR to Wilson to FDR that deserves, at the very least, a serious explanation from the Speaker. That's hardly an unreasonable request of our nominee in the most critical, decisive election in our country's history.
LOL
Where is the “I’m a delusional Mormon” Alert?
Gingrich’s record on abortion:

I cannot stand Beck anymore. He is a shock jock trying to discuss serious topics and comes across as hackneyed.
As if it matters to you...We have a choice between 4 people. Romney is a flip-flopping RINO...scratch him off the list. Ron Paul’s “conservatism” is a fraud and his record is a myth....he’s off the list. That leaves Santorum and Gingrich. I already listed many reasons why Newt’s “record” is not something I would support. That leaves the last man standing who has spoken to the issues that conservatives would question. Newt writes his own off as “mistakes” even though he was getting paid to promote them after leaving office.
Beck will become more aggressive towards Newt when he seem him blasting by Romney from here on.
I completely agree with you. When Beck started "preaching" instead of informing, I stopped listening to him.
Fairness Doctrine
Newt opposes the lefts efforts to reinstate the Fairness Doctrine and vocally supported Rep. Mike Pences 2007 bill that prohibited government censorship in radio.
Newt does not support the Fairness Doctrine and he has been vocally critical of the lefts efforts to reinstate the doctrine over the past decade, including supporting Mike Pences bill that prohibited government censorship in radio in 2007.
In 1987, the three left-wing networks plus PBS/NPR dominated media, and talk-radio was still nascent; many of Americas most influential conservative activists, including the American Conservative Union and Phyllis Schlafly, supported the Fairness Doctrine at this time.
The rapid growth of conservative viewpoints in the media in the last 25 years is a testament to the power and innovation of the conservative movement once power is taken out of the hands of the elite networks and put into the hands of consumers.
I respectfully disagree with you CC
Congress has been rendered impotent by this President & his czars. With now have government by regulatory fiat.
If the GOP dosen’t take the WH, Congress really dosen’t matter.
Newt absolutely opposes cap and trade as well as any system of taxing carbon emissions. He testified before Congress against it in 2009 and led a grassroots effort while the Chairman of American Solutions to block its passage in the House and Senate.
Newt believes that cap and trade would kill hundreds of thousands of American jobs, cause electricity and fuel prices to skyrocket, and make America poorer. In contrast, Gingrich believes the best way to protect the environment is through markets, incentives, and entrepreneurs, who quite often are deploying innovative new technologies.
As for the question of whether industrial development has dramatically contributed to a warming of the atmosphere, Newt has noted there is no settled scientific conclusion. Many scientists believe it is the case. Others do not. But this unsettled scientific question has nothing to do with the best approach to protecting our environment, which is always markets, incentives, and entrepreneurs creating better and more efficient products and services.
The game plan is to beat obama. The rest are wimpy. Now answer the question. Who do you think is best to beat obama?
I’m not dure where you got all that info but I AM sure it’s incorrect. Newt supports tax-payer funded abortions?? Since when? Just the other day, he said we must defund Planned Parenthood.
I really don’t appreciate being called a Newtard. I’d like to see you say that to Jim Rob, who has endorsed Newt.
I don’t listen to beck except what I read here but that fact that he doesn’t openly support mitt doesn’t mean he doesn’t. He needs his listeners so he’s using a different strategy - I guess the world is too dumb - in his eyes - to see it. Pompous ***.

BINGO
Thanks for the great post! I’m glad you see it too.
You mean FM?
His group was paid $1.7 million over 10 years.
He was paid personally $300K over three years as a historical consultant.
When you say “record” are you talking about his past relationships?
He says he is a repentant man, I believe him.
You support who ever you need to support, I will vote Gingrich.
Seems to me that Gingrich is talking about even more power in the white house.
Earlier today someone informed me that Gingrich has the arrogance and audacity to push things through whether congress likes it or not.
Apparently “conservatives” want a dictator.
It doesn’t really matter anyway because Obama will get his second term because conservatives are selling their souls and will pay for it in the coming year.
You need to go spread that on the open SC primary thread! Seriously! snicker
