The buzz today is Drudge's headline, "P@$$ed" and the associated Wapo blog
Most Freepers know that I'm as far from a conspiracy theorist as one gets. But this seems too convenient. You have:
a president whose polling is tanking, whose re-elect is deeply in trouble, and whose policies cannot possibly improve things in the next eight months;
a president who despises the military (there is a new book out by Michael Hastings, The Operators, reporting that Obama in Baghdad didn't want to shake any more soldiers' hands or sign books http://www.buzzfeed.com/buzzfeedpolitics/book-depicts-cranky-obama-on-baghdad-visit;
a president who desperately wants out of Afghanistan and Iraq and who has refused to take the recommendations of his senior generals;
and now, out of nowhere, a video of Marines "desecrating" the bodies of Taliban killers suddenly appears. (For the record, I seem to recall Patton urinating in the Rhine and it was cheered by the press. Also, for the record, I seem to recall Taliban/al-Qaeda types actually cutting off the heads of living Americans, and I'm supposed to get upset by urinating on the dead body of an enemy? Sorry, gotta meditate on that one).
Also for the record, to me the video is extremely staged. The bodies are neatly positioned, the Marines lined up, and obviously this wasn't spur-of-the-moment passion, er, erupting. At the end, the photographer apparently says, "Is that it?" So the video was meant to be released.
As I say, I'm no conspiracy theorist, but for an administration desperate to be hailed for something positive and desperate to radically reduce the size of the military, this little incident seems tailor made.
So what? These guys are dead! Why would they care? They used to cut off the ears of Charlie too, but so what?
No kidding and I really don’t care what these brave marines did to these despicable Muslims. I’m on the side of the marines. Too bad they didn’t dump pig blood on them.
We have become a nation of sissies. We are doomed. Seriously.
It’s only a matter of time.
The thought I’m mulling in the back of my mind is that Obama is using Afghanistan to get rid of the patriotic troops, either by death, injuries, or demoralization.
The most telling moment, I think, was when Obama’s people wanted to apologize for bombing Hiroshima and Japan wouldn’t let them. The thing the terrorists/Islamists want more than anything is a protracted war where the opposition views it as immoral to actually kill first before the enemy kills you. The free world could turn the Islamic world into glass and be done with it. Instead, we’re letting grown men use their women and children as human shields so that they - and we - can die slow, painful deaths while an Islam (that is hell-bent on terrorizing the whole world into becoming Muslim) spreads all over the world.
We talk about Chamberlain’s appeasement of Hitler, and rightly say that appeasement only fuels bullies. Well, Islam is by its very nature a bully bent on domination through violent means and the suppression of anybody who has a free, independent thought. It’s Hitler on steroids. If it was OK to take out Germany and anybody who sided with Germany, then why is it not OK to take out the Islamists and anybody who sides with them? Because Islam calls itself a “religion” they’re untouchable? Murderous tyrants are OK as long as they claim to be doing it for God?
I think we need to think long and hard about the enemies we face and get serious about facing them.
Too bad it wasn’t pig urine.
I think you’re exactly right.
Soldiers have been desecrating bodies of dead enemy since the spear and shield were the weapons of choice. America did not invent bad behavior by soldiers , but as with slavery, America seems to get the rap, thanks to our media.
This sort of behavior is not the norm for Marines, and for America. Like Beck says, America is Great, because America is Good. Were the country that rescues our enemy from the hands of pirates, for Christ sake.
I could honestly care less what they did to the bodies in private, but what were they thinking breaking out the video camera? Did they not realize how fast that little video would spread around the globe and what consequences that would lead too? What the heck were they thinking? When I was in the service they always reminded us when we were on foreign soil, that we were American ambassadors. What the people see in us when they come in contact, is how they will perceive Americans for the rest of their lives. When a few knuckleheads take it on their own put this on video for the whole world to see, they are doing great damage to Americas image. The Image us soldiers and sailors of the past tried so hard to build. And at the worse this could lead to a retaliation that is to horrific to imagine.
You may or may not agree with my commentary, but this proud veteran stands by it.
Maybe if the Rules of engagement allowed them prosecute a War
instead of presenting themselves as ready targets for the America Hating Muslims ... but the point is well put—the idiot who filmed it —ought share a cell with Manning.
IF the photographer said “Is that it?” at the end the photographer was working with the people who did the pissing, who wanted the video to exist.
I’m disappointed they didn’t take a s**t on them.
We sacrificed so much in Iraq, to win the hearts and minds. We got the Sunnis and Shiites to at least somewhat work together against terrorists. We got people craving justice rather than for their side to win.
And then we told the terrorists when we were gonna leave, left then when t was too early, and handed the whole place over to Iran.
What could be more demoralizing to the soldiers who have seen their brothers in the field sacrifice life, limb, and their own marriages to win the hearts and minds of the Iraqis right before handing them over to the Iranian mullahs?
If we’re not there to achieve victory then what is the point of even being there? As you say - unless we are willing to do what it takes to win, we’re just there as ready targets.
And that’s why I wonder if Obama is using Afghanistan to get rid of the patriotic military force that alone would resist his own coup here in the USA.
Several months ago, there were some news articles about US military urinating on dead bodies.
Is this the same incident or a new one?
CAIR is notorious for trying to stir up trouble. They have been trying to claim hate crimes against Muslims for years, but only had a few cases that even seem close. But, they keep trying.
Also, recall some faked videos of British military (IIRC) several years ago in Iraq.
Per one report I heard, at least one of the guys in this current video has been located and has been out of the military for a while.
I agree
If one takes pix or video, chances are 99.999999999999999% they will end up on the Internet at some point.
But, people still take pix and video and act surprised and shocked when such pix/video end up on a news channel or the Internet.
Just tell the NEA they were trying to create art but didn’t have a cross and a mason jar.
Interesting reading.
