'If Fred Got Two Beatings Per Day…' Homework Asks

Third graders in in Gwinnett County, Ga., were given math homework Wednesday that asked questions about slavery and beatings.

Christopher Braxton told ABC News affiliate WSB-TV in Atlanta that he couldn't believe the assignment his 8-year-old son brought home from of Beaver Ridge Elementary school in Norcross.

"It kind of blew me away," Braxton said. "Do you see what I see? Do you really see what I see? He's not answering this question."

The question read, "Each tree had 56 oranges. If eight slaves pick them equally, then how much would each slave pick?"

Another math problem read, "If Frederick got two beatings per day, how many beatings did he get in one week?"

What is the difference between a set of bagpipes and a trampoline?

People usually take off their shows when they jump on a trampoline.

This is a lot like the “Howard University School of Law - Final Exam” that I saw 30 years ago. I wish I still had a copy. :(

1. Little Johnny has an AK 47 with a 30 round clip. He usually misses 6 out of every 10 shots and he uses 13 rounds per drive-by shooting. How many drive-by shootings can Little Johnny attempt before he has to reload?

Something doesn't jibe. If he can get off 13 rounds, he's obviously using full auto. Under those conditions 40% hit rate from a moving vehicle is good shooting.

But for someone that expert, he has lousy ammo discipline. Yes he will almost always take out the target (999 times in a 1000, and the word "attempt" is out of place). But if he resricted his firing to the classic "five rounds rapid", he would still hit the target at least once 92% of the time, make three times as many drive-bys without reloading, and have a better than 60% chance of taking out all six targets.

No but if they’d given the test in WV, they’d have named it after him.

Oh, that's funny! (And so true.)

My kids just had to take this test in California, only the slaves were gay and lesbian fetishists and the person beaten was transgendered. The math test was followed by a discussion of hate crimes and bullying....

why pay for rats in Los Angeles? You can trap them for free.

A Los Angeles street rat would kill and eat the boa.

The bigger question is whether or not they could pick the oranges whilst laden with coconuts

Are we talking about European slaves or African slaves?

As a nation of people, if we continue to reject the truth!

“The wicked shall be turned into hell, and all the nations that forget God.” (Psalm 9:7)

“By mercy and truth iniquity is purged: and by the fear of the LORD men depart from evil.” (Proverbs 16:6)

“I exort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; For kings, and for all that be in authority, that we may lead a qiuet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour, Who will have all men to be saved, and come to the knowledge of the truth.” (1 Timothy 2:1-4)

It depends on how many trees there were!

X = (O/S) * Y, where O = number of oranges/tree; S = number of slaves picking; and Y = number of trees

Since 1 = sin^2 Θ + cos^2Θ; and cosΘ = ±√[(sin^2 Θ + cos^2Θ) - sin^2Θ] we can now combine and simplify ...

...we can now see that it is obvious that ...

...and now by plugging in our numbers we can further simplify the problem to X = 9Y

Assuming a positive integer for Y (ignoring 'fractional trees' due to rot, insect damage etc. causing less than 56 oranges on a particular tree), we still DO NOT KNOW, because the number of trees is NOT SPECIFIED!

But you get the idea, anyway. Read Chapters 17 -19, and do the problems on pages 320, 357, and 380, with proofs and showing your work, before next class!

I hated darn near every math teacher I ever had.

mmm, that’s the only positive quality I can think of. We got badly screwed over everywhere else.

Oh, come on; it isn't that bad. You also got bagpipes, kilts and haggis .... Ugh; never mind. It IS that bad.

“I’m Scots/Irish/Hillbilly/Hick.”

Well, then. I’m sure you know why God invented whiskey.

It was to keep the Irish from fighting ALL of the time...

Each tree had 56 oranges. If eight slaves pick them equally, then how much would each slave pick?

First we need to know how many trees are in the orchard. 50, 100, 200, 250?? I bet the person who dreamed up this homework is one of holder's / 0 bummer's people.
