LOS ANGELES (CBS) A parade will be held along Crenshaw Boulevard Monday to mark the start of the seven-day African American festival of Kwanzaa.
The theme of the 35th annual Kwanzaa Gwaride Parade and Festival will be A New Paradigm, according to R.W. Akile for People of Color, which organizes the parade and festival.
The festivities are set to begin at noon at the corner of Crenshaw and Adams boulevards and will then head south along Crenshaw to Leimert Park.
The celebration of the 45th anniversary of Kwanzaa is a significant marker and milestone in itself, not only because of what it says about the expansive message and enduring meaning that Kwanzaa has for millions throughout the world African community, but also because of what it says about us as a people, Maulana Karenga wrote in his annual founders message.
For it speaks to our profound commitment to self-determination, to cultural reaffirmation and the celebration of ourselves; to our right and responsibility to speak our own special cultural truth in a multicultural world and to the practice and promotion of Kwanzaas core principles, the Nguzo Saba, the Seven Principles, the hub and hinge on which the holiday turns.
Kwanzaa was created by Karenga in 1966 and is observed from Dec. 26 though Jan. 1. Its focus is on seven principles unity, self-determination, collective work and responsibility, cooperative economics, purpose, creativity and faith.
The seven principles of Kwanzaa are values that we as Angelenos all hold dear, Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa said.
During the week, a candelabrum called a Kinara is lit, and ears of corn representing each child in the family are placed on a traditional straw mat.
Some people fast during the holiday, and a feast is often held on its final night.
Looks like their version of the Annie Malone Parade here in St.Louis.
It’s not a successful Annie Malone Parade until somebody gets shot.
“Kwanzaa”...from the Swahili for “let’s see if we can get the black folks to overspend on the holidays just like the white folks”.
That’s perfect. Nothing good can come from such a warped individual as Maulana Karenga.
The battle at lefty Wikipedia is hell-bent on white washing this POS too.
Just imagine those words spoken by a white Christian.... Field day for the MSM, and Holder would initiate a hate-speach investigation.
Our nearby “welfare city” celebrates it. It’s a free goodies day. Free brakfast and lunches are just not enough!
On the second day of Kwanzaa Karenga gave to me
Two Jaily birds,
And a Marxist in a red tree.
On the third day of Kwanzaa Karenga gave to me
Three Dixie Chicks.
Two Jaily birds,
And a Marxist in a red tree.
On the fourth day of Kwanzaa Karenga gave to me
Four Lenin busts.
Three Dixie Chicks,
Two Jaily birds,
And a Marxist in a red tree.
On the fifth day of Kwanzaa Karenga gave to me
Five fel-on-ies.
Four Lenin busts,
Three Dixie Chicks,
Two Jaily birds,
And a Marxist in a red tree.
On the sixth day of Kwanzaa Karenga gave to me
Six Castro jumpsuits.
Five fel-on-ies,
Four Lenin busts,
Three Dixie Chicks,
Two Jaily birds,
And a Marxist in a red tree.
On the seventh day of Kwanzaa Karenga gave to me
Seven Mao pajamas,
Six Castro jumpsuits,
Five fel-on-ies,
Four Lenin busts
Three Dixie Chicks,
Two Jaily birds,
And a Marxist in a red tree.

‘Twas the night before Kwanzaa
And all through the ‘hood,
Maulana Karenga was up to no good.
He’d tortured a woman and spent time in jail.
He needed a new scam that just wouldn’t fail.
(”So what if I stuck some chick’s toe in a vice?
Nobody said revolution was nice!”)
The Sixties were over. Now what would he do?
Why, he went back to school — so that’s “Dr.” to you!
He once ordered shootouts at UCLA
Now he teaches Black Studies just miles away.
Then to top it all off, the good Doctor’s new plan
Was to get rid of Christmas and piss off The Man.
Karenga invented a fake holiday.
He called the thing Kwanza. “Hey, what’s that you say?
“You don’t get what’s ‘black’ about Maoist baloney?
You say that my festival’s totally phony?
“Who cares if corn isn’t an African crop?
Who cares if our harvest’s a month or two off?
Who cares if Swahili’s not our mother tongue?
A lie for The Cause never hurt anyone!
“Umoja! Ujima! Kujichagulia, too!
Collectivist crap never sounded so cool!
Those guilty white liberals — easy to fool.
Your kids will now celebrate Kwanzaa in school!”
And we heard him exclaim as he drove out of sight:
“Happy Kwanzaa to all, except if you’re white!”
I wonder how many of the parade participants could pronounce "paradigm" let alone know what it means.
Ha ha. And all things no one would want.
Ah yes . . . an “authentic African holiday” created in 1966 to celebrate the spirit of Voltaire, Rousseau, Comte, Feuerbach, Marx, Darwin, and Wellhausen, as opposed to the uncle tom European concepts of the Bible! [/sarcasm]
How do you clean a keyboard that's been spewed with gin and tonic?
I didn’t expect many to show up for the parade, and I was right. Did you see the video clip of that pitiful parade? Hardly any attendees, and I expect that those who did show up were the family members of the participants in the parade. http://losangeles.cbslocal.com/2011/12/26/kwanzaa-parade-preps-underway-on-crenshaw-boulevard/
