Pope Urges Pakistan To Repeal Anti-Blasphemy Law Pope Benedict XVI has called on Pakistan to scrap its anti-blasphemy law after the assassination of Salmaan Taseer
10 January 2011
Pakistan must repeal its anti-blasphemy law because it acts as a "pretext for acts of injustice and violence against religious minorities", the pope said today as he urged world leaders to ensure Christians are protected from attack and discrimination.
In an address devoted to religious freedom, Benedict XVI said the "tragic murder" of Salmaan Taseer, the Punjab governor who was killed for opposing legislation that imposes a death sentence for people who insult the prophet Muhammad, showed there was an "urgent need to make progress" in the abrogation of this law.
He told an audience of ambassadors assigned to the Holy See: "The particular influence of a given religion in a nation ought never to mean that citizens of another religion can be subject to discrimination in social life or, even worse, that violence against them can be tolerated.
"In this regard, it is important for interreligious dialogue to favour a common commitment to recognising and promoting the religious freedom of each person and community."
He also criticised countries such as Saudi Arabia, which curtails the worship of its million-plus Christian immigrant population by outlawing the public preaching and practise of non-Muslim religions.
"The right to religious freedom is not fully respected when only freedom of worship is guaranteed, and that with restrictions," he said. "Furthermore, I encourage the accompaniment of the full safeguarding of religious freedom and other human rights by programmes which, beginning in primary school and within the context of religious instruction, will educate everyone to respect their brothers and sisters in humanity."

Indeed, this might be the only answer.
Did he say “pretty please”? Otherwise the pagans will probably ignore him.
Catholics, if not the Vatican directly, should consider creating an international Catholic self-defense organization, that under diplomatic immunity issued by the Vatican, travels to oppressed Catholic communities around the world. Some of its missions:
1) Assess the overall situation. Can a community defend itself? Is anyone locally sympathetic, or at least evenhanded, in dealing with them? Are there several communities that could band together for mutual defense? Is there any support or even-handedness that can be obtained from parts of the national government?
2) Provide advice, information, and training to communities to help them better protect and defend themselves if necessary. This can include any number of things such as limiting outside access, building “duress bunkers”, or even using local superstitions to create “spiritual boundaries” against hostile outsiders.
3) Give them recording devices to photograph and record attackers, especially any local authorities directing or assisting the attackers, as well as means to transmit such information outside of their country.
A lot of creativity needs to go into this to make it work, but the end result could be very gratifying.
“Benedict XVI said the “tragic murder” of Salmaan Taseer...”
It was tragic. He was a good man. He died at the hands of barbarians.
As far as the Pakistani Muslims are concerned all the more reason to strenghthen the law.
Really!!! Where are all the real men in Western Civilization? Marx and the feminist movement have destroyed agency and virtue in men and the protective instinct that was natural in most healthy men. Their agitprop in schools and in popular culture has been destroying the patriarchy on purpose——for nihilism of Western Civilization.
We need to wake up (take education back!!) kick out the homosexual/feminist unnatural stuff and teach history and the truth-—and realize ideas that are fed to our children==have consequences. We need to burn all textbooks and establish the Classics of Western Civilization—turn off the TV, to create real men again—men who have virtue and respect the nature of women and children and men who are not addicts to materialism.
We know from history why cultures are destroyed.....it is always from lack of Virtue-—even Aristotle knew this. Obscenity laws were killed in the 50’s and 60’s by our courts and we see the results of the corrupted children—sexualizing them and making them into rude, godless, materialists. This mass marketing of ideas through the TV and schools will destroy our freedom.
