Perhaps, in addition to the fences and security cameras, Mr. Hanson should consider acquiring a a Remington Model 700 SPS Tactical rifle (or its functional equivalent) in .308 or .30-06, fitting it with a night vision scope, and practicing his 250-500 yard shots.

You're right, it's well worth the click. A quote:

The influx of over 11 million illegal aliens has had a sort of ripple effect that is rarely calibrated. Sixty percent of Hispanic males in California are not graduating from high school. Unemployment in rural California runs about 20 percent. There is less fear now of arrest and incarceration, given the bankruptcy of the state, which, of course, is rarely officially connected even in small part to illegal immigration. Perhaps because illegal immigration poses so many mind-boggling challenges (e.g., probably over $20 billion lost to the state in remittances, the undermining of federal law, the prejudice shown against legal immigration applicants, ethnic favoritism as the engine of amnesty, subterfuge on the part of Mexico, vast costs in entitlements and subsidies), talking about it is futile. So most don't, in fear of accusations of racism.

The article is a great recommendation for the Texas solution: we can shoot thieves here. They need it. Unfortunately we can't shoot hit & run drivers - yet.

The farmers and country folk in my area would shoot any little punk they would catch stealing in the countryside, at least the ones that got past the dogs. Basic redneck heaven, your own water source, your own septic system, a good dog and a clear line of fire.

Another manifestation of the Pakistani-Peruvian Axis.

I'm not sure where Prof. Hanson is on the CW2 Cube, but obviously the wrong part.

Unfortunately, Admin Moderator closed the thread with more responses than this one. However, I shall be undaunted in my quest to comment...:-)

Best paragraph in the article, IMO:

Out here in the Dark Ages we depend instead on truth from the oral tradition, in the manner of Homeric bards. Rural folk offer their stories of woe to help others deter crime, cognizant that official accounts in the media are either incomplete or censored to reflect a sort of Ministry of Truth groupthink.

This is a nugget of Truth that can't be overlooked. Many people with first-hand knowledge of most subjects/events read a newspaper account or see a TV report of the same event and wonder if the reporter was recounting the reality that happened right in front of them. It is a rare reporter that will rise to the level of journalist and be worthy of the respect of that name. Most are happy to take the pablum handed out by official sources and accept it as the pure truth.

It's coming...

I see the elites walling themselves in behind ranks of military-armed "police" for their protection, while civil war (that THEY have created) is waged among the population. This has been the plan all along, and zero is the culmination of the effort...

VDH describes a difficult problem, one which no politician in any of the states can be expected to resolve:

Mexican-Americans…(a) largely successful and increasingly integrated and assimilated near majority of the state’s population. […] Sixty percent of Hispanic males in California are not graduating from high school.

Seems unlikely there will be a comfortable resolution to the problem

They’re like sharks. You can write nice articles, but they don’t read them. You just have to make it easier for them to go somewhere else to steal. There is a certain amount of logic. They go where there’s easy pickings. No one should have to put up with this kind of baloney. Get all the farmers together and form a circle around the sheriff’s house and the county attorney’s house and then the mayor’s house. Don’t do anything and don’t say anything. Form a legal cooperative and send the mayor and the sheriff and the county attorney bills for the stolen property and then take them to court. Make their lives miserable, but do it legally.

This civilizational collapse is happening in slow-motion everywhere...different locations produce different circumstances.

Around here, we've even had instances of farm crops being stolen out of the fields. One of my neighbors had all the persimmons stolen off his tree in his yard.

Typical Liberal mindset (nail on the head sentence):
We
[California enforcement] need middle-class misdemeanors to pay for the felonies of the underclass.

Something to keep in mind when TSHTF - why you and your neighbors should be armed to the teeth:
. . . our rural homes are like stray sheep outside the herd, without whatever protection is offered by the density of a town.
Unfortunately, depending on the density, the "density of the town" could be a minus.

Sitting here waiting for all the FReepers to start piling on poor, lost California, the state you all agreed to give up without even a shot being fired...

“You brought it on yourselves! You deserve it, fruits and nuts! Why don’t you do something about it?!? We should wall off California from the rest of the country! We should give it back to Mexico! The people of California are utterly contemptible! This could NEVER happen here in _________, because we’re made of better stuff than you losers in California!”

There is nothing braver than an American taking on the enemy abroad, and nothing more cowardly than an American averting his gaze from the enemy in his own backyard.

We already have a road-map for where this is going.

Its called ARGENTINA. study their society, their economy, their public safety to learn about your future.

I’m not such an alarmist as to say society will collapse, but it will get uglier, and it will bounce along the bottom for a long time.

It is time to start lopping off digits. 1st offense, lop off weak hand pinkie finger. 2nd, strong hand pinkie finger. Keep going alternating hands until you get to the thumbs. When criminals no longer have opposable thumbs, I predict a dramatic decrease in the crime rate. No criminal should have 24 convictions like that.

This is also why I have always been a proponent of long prision sentences. Like he said, a $200 haul might cost $1,500 to repair. Petty criminals rack up huge costs in damage. Much better to pay the $25,000/year to warehouse them in captivity. Much better. It is a lot of money, but these jackasses rack up much much higher costs with hospital care being the highest cost, when they get shot or harmed in the commission of their crimes.

We need to start cutting off digits, but absent that, we should just send our criminals to 3rd world prisons on the cheap. China would be great place to warehouse all of our prisoners. They could build a few dozen prisons in no time, and use unemployed rural folk for guards, all cheap.

I knew this already because I pull dogs and occasionally cats and kittens north from the central valley animal shelters. They are being dumped at record rates and none are being adopted. They roam the streets and starve.

The valley has lost most civilization as the rest of us know it.
