Guys, I am looking to buy physical silver. Bars or Coins for TSHTF scenario.
I have dry food, Have guns , ammo, gear, cash, knives, water purification, library of books on TSHTF situations, have three months of water on hand etc.
I am looking to buy physical silver and have looked at a few websites and want to know the best way to do this? coins, bars?
Don’t forget silverware, silver and gold jewelry, all are usually stamped .925 or xxK. Also, pre-1982 pennies are 95% copper. (The later zinc ones could be used for defense if you load your own shotgun shells.)
I know what you mean but the source of silver comes out of the ground from a mine. If the world doesn’t end and the government doesn’t steal you and your assets blind then I would gamble a bit to cover all the possible bases. And I only say that because from past history, silver outperforms gold in the last end run up which is always a panic, including mining stocks.
BTW, don’t forget to sell some before the dust settles and the smoke clears, then it’s back to (new) paper fiat.
I work retail and I’ve asked the ladies who run our money room to keep an eye out for me. Just this week I traded for 2 quarters and 5 dimes. Oddly, one of the quarters was a 2007 Utah proof that someone had taken out of a commemorative set.
Go to a coin show and talk to the silver and gold coin guys. If you want to protect yourself in a disaster scenario, buy the ‘junk’ type silver coins. Silver dimes and quarters, silver half dollars. Pay cash. You can also buy gold near the bullion price like $5, $10 coins. If you are thinking about an investment, graded coins might be better. The key is paying cash.
Then you need a good safe. You can get a floor safe or regular safe but make sure you can bolt it to the floor. A professional install is wise.
I knew that Israel had been exploring natural gas off it’s coastline but I didn’t know that it was already at the point of exporting it. Does anyone else know much about Israel and it’s natural gas?
Luke 6:38, Malachi 3
Invest in helping the weak and poor now and God will remember your help and protect you when times get tough. Regards.
I would agree with the 90% silver coins are the best bet right now. They are not pretty and it feels weird buying money but right now they are best bang for your buck.
The thing is because silver is way down from a few months ago, even local coin dealers are trying to limit their losses by tacking on high premiums over spot.
Pre-1965 coins, most dealers have coffee cans full of them they been accumulating for years so they won’t really stick it to you.
To help here’s my Hierarchy of silver, going higher premiums to low
1) Special yearly Foreign limited edition bullion (Chinese Pandas, Australian “Year of” series, Canadian wildlife series)
2) American Eagles
3) Foreign Bullion => Maple Leaves, Mexican Onzas, Austrian Philharmonics
4) Anything Engelhard
5) Generic rounds (Coins with no $ value printed on them)
6) Art bars
7) 90% pre-1965 coins
So, a silver service set from the 1940’s might be worth something???
If you really want to buy on line, Kitco is a totally reliable agent you can buy gold and silver coins or bars from.
Nothing mysterious about any of this, it's like buying anything else.
Try the site papermoneycollapse.com. The guy who runs it is Detlev Schlichter and he advises buying gold, not silver as a first choice. He does answer e-mail.
Not only for melt value, but the actual collector value depending on who made it and how complete it is.
If it is rare or desirable, it could have a higher collector value than melt value, or the value of the metals after you melt it into ingots.
If it isn’t collectible or rare, it’s worth at least the weight of the silver in it.
I’d have it appraised.
Used to live in Clifton, NJ and went to that coin shop in the 1980s. Still on Main Ave. by St. Paul’s School?
Buy junk, buy local, and get a referral. Your gun guy, he may be the type who knows a good coin dealer. That kind of thing. Sometimes you can get a good deal on eBay, but not much anymore.
I have never purchased from one of those online dealers. Too many people along the line who would then know what you ordered and where it was delivered. Theft is a concern to me.
I am also wary of those online folks, selling crap or inflating prices and fees to take advantage of those who are truly frightened of the future.
Also, I read a story about China counterfeiting silver and gold coins so that they could make a buck on the pm rush.
A local guy will be more realistic and will be there for making deals and taking complaints, if any.
Yep, still in the same place, and its a great little shop.
Good barter items. We also buy cheap lighters, various over-the-counter medicines, small tools (multi tools, can openers, etc), pasta, para-cord and cheap pocket knives.
We can't know what grapes may cost, when SHTF.
Ok guys - I called around a few places - not much luck yet.
Prices over spot are quiet a bit if you are buying in small quanties,.
bump for later.
