Will Calvinists Vote For Romney Or Sit The Election Out If He Is The Nominee?
12/19/11 | Tom Hawk

I have been listening to a lot of Christian talk radio lately, and reading web sites of evangelicals that lean towards the Arminiasm view, and it seems like the talking heads are almost unanimous that they want a true conservative to go up against Obama next November. But when I listen to the callers and read comments by their readers on their web sites, I am learning that a vast majority will stay home and not vote if Romney is the Republican nominee. A sentiment I am quickly learning here at FR that many evangelicals who lean towards the Arminianist view cannot imagine ever voting for a Mormon as president, yet they will allow a Muslim to stay in the office.

I myself am an evangelical Christian that lean to the Arminian view, but I plan on holding my nose if Romney is the nominee. I do want Bauchmann, Perry, Santorum, or Gingrich, but if the rest of the party elects Romney then he will be the man.

Then I started listening and checking web sites of Evangelicals who lean toward the Calvinist view, and I am finding that as a whole Calvinist leaders and a vast number of those who call these shows, or leave comments on their web sites, their followers have no problem voting for Romney IF he gets the nomination. So I am learning from what I hear that a vast majority of evangelicals, Calvinists will not stay home and allow Obama a free ride if Romney is the choice.

OK, so it looks like evangelicals as a whole are supporting the most conservative candidates in the primary, but I am wanting to know if you Freepers whop lean to the Calvinist teachings will you or will you not vote for Romney if he is the Republican Nominee? Or will you do as a vast amount of the Armenian leaning evangelicals are planning on doing, and not vote? Which would allow Obama to get re-elected and guarantee that he will finish his job of destroying the Unites States of America.

No. Cliff is a Clavinist. It’s a Calvinist splinter group.

Now if "Arminianist" wasn't bad enough, the article opens with a picture of Martin Luther and not John Calvin! Tell you what Tom - I'm going to sit this one out, until you're capable of taking your subject matter seriously.

None taken.

Every election year is the same. We conservatives get serious about who we want to run our country and that makes us extra sensitive to those who would challenge our thinking.

When the election cycle is over, we will join hands and minds to bash the left together again as one.

I guess it shows how much I know about the looks of either man. I found the image on a site that was discussing Calvin vs Luther, and that was the photo someone else posted when they mentioned Luther.

My Bad.

If it’s because he’s Mormon I don’t know of one Protestant Christian of any denomination that will state that as a reason for them not supporting Romney. . . .

I am a Calvinist and I will not vote for Romney as a matter of personal conscience ...

As a Calvinist I believe that God ordains all events and the means..So God has already ordained the outcome of this election and the means to that end.. the votes of the people.

Daniel 2:21 says, "God changes times and seasons; And he changeth the times and the seasons: he removeth kings, and setteth up kings: he giveth wisdom unto the wise, and knowledge to them that know understanding:

The Father appoints the kings and presidents of the earth through the Son.(Matthew 28:18,)

Pro 8:15 By me kings reign, and princes decree justice.

Pro 8:16 By me princes rule, and nobles, [even] all the judges of the earth.

Jhn 19:11 Jesus answered, Thou couldest have no power [at all] against me, except it were given thee from above: therefore he that delivered me unto thee hath the greater sin.

Rom 13:1 — Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God.

Pro 21:1 The king's heart [is] in the hand of the LORD, [as] the rivers of water: he turneth it whithersoever he will.

God will use this election for HIS purposes ..so we can be at peace

There is NO WAY I will EVER vote for a pro-choice candidate.

That you’d even mention Mormonism in this conversation is kinda weird. So-called Calvinism is simply a set of doctrinal emphases that have grown out of a high respect for the sovereignty of God in all things. Mormonism, on the other hand, grew out of the imagination of Joseph Smith.

I know you’re not comparing the two, but that you’d mention Mormonism here is kinda strange. Do you really see Calvinism as a foreign set of doctrines? Do you really find yourself in opposition to some of the precepts of Calvinism?

Ah, please ignore my last comment. Of course Mormonism is brought up because of Romney, not because of Calvin.

Long day ...

The only “vote” that matters is the from the One Who establishes all authority for His purposes. Human government is destined to fail in order to prove man’s inability to govern himself, and usher in the reign of the King of kings. Should this present wicked eon find a respite so the Gospel of grace can continue, it will occur not because Christendom chose the correct candidate, but rather because of the intention and will of God to display His mercy. If Ron Paul does not get elected as POTUS then we will continue our decrease into degeneracy and add to the assurance of His imminent return.

“because Mormonism is a cult like Jehovah Witnesses and the screwed up Black Theology thing that Obama follows.”

We have to ignore the denomination issue and focus on the most pro-Constitution president — the one who will ensure that all religions/cults are free to worship openly (provided they’re not hurting others.) We have at least two Catholics in the mix. How is that not a cult? They ascribe supernatural powers to a man, i.e., the pope, and follow his dictates. I don’t care if our president is a Catholic, Mormon, Calvinist, Methodist, or a funky chicken.

Our forefathers, some of whom weren’t fundamental Christians, believed all should be able to worship freely. Some thinkers who were influential in forming the original documents, e.g., John Leland, strongly believed in “personal soul liberty”, and we need to be sure that our candidate adheres to that.

Re predestination/election, whether it’s “a thing” or not, it’s best to assume it’s not true and charge ahead following the Great Commission.
